MOUNTRATH CS student Jean Kennedy has received a bursary from the dragons on Junior Dragons Den for her product which is a timetable pen.
The show was recently broadcast on RTÉ when people all over the country saw Jean’s success. Jean is in 5th year in Mountrath Community School and she had the idea for this product in her transition year mini-company project. She entered Junior Dragon’s Den and made it through numerous rounds to get to the final.
Jean is the only Laois person to have reached the final of the competition. The ultimate goal in the competition was to get to ‘The Den’ to promote the product, to gain the Dragon’s interest and to get the financial bursary of €2000.
Jean decided to enter the competition at the last minute and no doubt is happy she did now, as her business is taking off since the programme was aired.
“The journey from filling out my Junior Dragons Den application form to pitching my business to the Dragons is without doubt an experience that I will never forget. I remember seeing the advert for ‘budding entrepreneurs’ to apply for The Den if ‘you’ve got what it takes to face The Dragons’.
Jean was delighted with the experience. “I was so grateful to have gotten the chance to be part of this series Dragons Den. I learned so much about myself as an individual and how important it is to work hard if you want success”.
