LATE Tom GORMAN
The death occurred at the Regional Hospital Portlaoise on Sunday, July 14 of Tom Gorman, Mullen, Vicarstown, Laois. His remains were reposing at his son John’s residence Rossmore, Vicarstown on Tuesday until removal on Wednesday to the Church of the Assumption, Vicarstown for requiem mass at 2pm and funeral took place afterwards to Moyanna Cemetery. Tom beloved husband of the late Philomena and dear brother of the late Ciss is sadly missed by his loving family Mary, Frances, Phil, John, Rita and Thomas, sisters Sheila, Patty and Laura, extended family, relatives and friends.
The July meeting of the Stradbally ICA Guild was adjourned as a mark of respect to the latle Delia Dunne, Park, who was a member of the guild for many years. To her family and friends we extend our deepest sympathy.

The organisers of the 49th National Steam Rally being held in Stradbally, County Laois on Sunday 4 and Monday 5 August 2013 are looking forward to another great event. Admission price €10. Children (under 12) free. 10am to 6pm each day.

A benefit night in aid of Tullamore Oncology/Haematology Unit will be held on Friday, July 26 in Bergins, of Timahoe. Numerous spot prizes on the night, also raffle. NEW TOILETS AT PLAYGROUND
Construction has commenced on the provision of the much needed toilets, disability toilet and changing facilities at the Children’s playground at The Green, Stradbally. The new toilets are situated at the rear of the Cosby Cottages, which are listed protected structures. Casey Bros Builders, Stradbally were awarded the contract for the construction. As part the contract the Cosby Cottages are to be refurbished and provision will be made for the installation of lighting and CCTV cameras at a future date. The committee would like to thank Stradbally ICA Guild for their co-operation and goodwill in bringing this project to fruition, and regret any inconvenience during the construction.
Gathering of O’Dempseys
An American Dempsey has organised the first gathering of the worldwide clan of O’Dempsey from July 26 to 28 at the Heritage Golf and Spa Resort Killenard. These dates, to include lectures, tours, music and stories and a ‘Dempsey round of golf.’
Work is to begin on the restoration of the Market House, next month. The conservation works are being 75% funded by Laois Partnership, the community and the council are providing the rest. The conservation report was launched by Brian Hayes TD in Cosby Hall last week.
