The restoration project committee report that stabilisation and most of the groundwork on the Market House restoration is complete and the refurbishment of the ornate ironwork underway. The areas of the roof that cannot be repaired until there is dry and frost free weather. Paving of the floor and Market House surrounds will be carried out after the roof is repaired. The committee apologises for any inconvenience while work is underway.

The parents and children of the St Colman’s School, Cosby National School and Scoil Mhuire Fatima Timahoe are invited to a Carol service under the Christmas Tree in the Court Square, Stradbally this Saturday, December 14. Meeting at St Colman’s for 5.30pm and walking down to the tree for the Carol Service at 5.45pm. Sing along with the Carol singers under the baton of John Maher. Wear your santa hats and perhaps bring a battery operated t-light also.
Christmas Draw and Party in Napper Tandy’s lounge on Sunday December 22. There’s €500 euro in cash prizes on the night plus numerous other spot prizes to be won. Tickets at €2 euro or 3 for €5 euro are on sale from all players, management, committee members and Napper Tandy’s. The Kevin Molloy Memorial Cup game will again take place on St. Stephens Day, kicking off at 11am in the Lawn in memory of our former team-mate and friend.

GOAL MILE 2013
Will be held on Christmas day in Oakvale Woods from 10am-12 noon. It is organised by Billy O’Neill. Proceeds this year to to GOAL project in the Philippines.
Next whist will be on Friday, December 20. This will be the Christmas whist when the top score will be €60 euro. Also at the whist the draw will take place for the winners of the sheet quiz on ‘items of chothing’. Your support will be greatly appreciated. Whist will begin at 8.30pm sharp and all are welcome.
The Stradbally Tidy Towns Christmas Tree Draw will be held in Dunnes on Saturday, December 21. The annual running cost of the tree in 2012 was €740 euros. This covered new lamps, replacement connectors and electricity. The sale of tickets and your support is vital in keeping the tree lit. Tickets are only €2 euro.

Mary Miller, Vicarstown was nominated for a unsung hero award at the Laois Community Forum awards recently. She was unlucky to lose out to Ger Lynch, Mountmellick. Mary has been involved with the community in Vicarstown over a long number of years, being involved in the old youth club for over 25 years, held all positions on Fianna Fail cumann, all positions on the ICA, active retirement group, you could say the only thing Mary did not do was say mass as she done everything else in the church, flowers on the alter, coached the choir, eucharistic minister etc. A good number of supporters attended on the awards night to cheer on Mary. She received a certificate on the night to recognise her contributions to the area over a long number of years. Well done Mary.
