Mountrath Community Alert
A public meeting was held on Tuesday, February 4 in St Fintan’s Hall to bring the community up to introduce Community Alert to the town and area. The meeting was set up by the Mountrath Community Alert Group to support Communities in protecting each other. The alert group is made up of volunteers who are dedicated to helping to prevent crime to the public and local groups, clubs and residents groups. The next meeting takes place on Thursday, February 27 in the old Gem Shop at 8pm sharp. People can register on the Text alert service until March 4. Each phone is €10.
New membership charges in Laois Libraries for Third Level and PLC Students from Friday, February 7. The new fee is now €3 annually. Library membership is free to children & OAPs, €3 for social welfare recipients and €15 for adults. The library stocks a large selection of books DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and language resources. Internet access, photocopying & printing facilities are also available. Free Wi-Fi is also available for members.

Adult Book Club
Next meeting on Thursday March 6 in Mountrath Library. We will be discussing “Before I Die” by Jenny Dowhnam. Copies are available at the library and new members are always welcome.
The knitting club continues at the Library to meet every Friday 10:30am-12:30pm. All welcome

Late Mary HEARNS
Condolences to the family of the late Mary Hearns of The Oak, Clonadacasey, Mountrath who died on Febuary 7 at St Joseph’s Ward, Moore Abbey, Monasterevin. Predeceased by her father Michael and mother Margaret, deeply regretted by her brothers and sisters extended family and friends. Removal from Moore Abbey to St Fintan’s Church Mountrath for Funeral Mass followed by Burial in St. Fintan’s Cemetery Mountrath.

Dog fouling is a growing litter problem in the town, every path in the town is covered in its daily. It is a nightmare for walkers and a health hazard for young children. Local awareness to identify the dog owners responsible is required. Please contact the Council’s freephone litter hotline @ 1800 32 32 30 with specific details if witnessed i.e. name and address of dog owner, location, time and date.
