ATHLETIC CLUB NEWS The Get Fit for Summer fun runs have been confirmed. The first takes place in Abbeyleix on Wednesday April 11th at 7:30pm with registration opening at 6:15 at the Manor Hotel. This run is 4k and anyone who has taken up walking and running to keep fit are invited to come along.
There will be spot prizes galore and the emphasis will be on having fun while getting fit. A second run/walk will take place Thursday April 26 in Ballyroan with registration in Whelan’s from 6:15 and this fun run/walk will be 5k. FAMILY FUN DAY
Ballyroan Parents Association in association with Ballyroan Juvenile GAA will host a family fun day on Sunday May 6th in the Ballyroan GAA Grounds from 1pm. Some of the activities on the day will include the following.
Football matches, Children’s Races, Dog Show, Inter-schools Art Competition, numerous side shows, stalls selling produce, stands showcasing local crafts and business.It has all the ingredients for a great day out and everybody is busy organising this event. COMMUNITY ALERT TABLE QUIZ
A table quiz will be held in the Sky’s Oer on Sat night April 14 at 9pm. The community alert has been resurrected recently in light of recent burglaries and the need for the community to look out for each other especially those who are isolated or live alone. Funds are needed so that alarms can be provided for those in need. Cards will be distributed shortly highlighting how to make your home and community more secure and will include the community alert number which can be contacted along with the Abbeyleix Garda station if anything suspicious is observed. A table of 4 is €40 and your support would be greatly appreciated.
JUVENILE GAA NEWS
U6, U8, and U8 training has now resumed on Wed nights at 7pm. Registration for all juvenile players takes place tonight at 7 and the new Club gear bag is available to registered players for €10.
The monthly meeting was held on March 13 in the Sue Ryder House presided over by Kathleen Scully. The speaker on the night was Councillor Mary Sweeney who spoke on a number of subjects concerning the area. The Laois Federation dinner dance will take place on Friday, April 13 in the Gandon Hotel. The Art classes continue on Wednesday nights. The raffle winners were Evelyn Mulhall, Elizabeth Quinlan and Kathleen Scully. A vote of sympathy was extended to the O’Rourke family on their recent bereavement. The next meeting is the A.G.M. and will take place on Tuesday April 10 at 8pm. Hostesses for the night are Elizabeth Murphy and Carmel Mc Enery.
