Portarlington Tidy Towns Easter Draw. There are Lily O’Brien Easter Egg Baskets in 10 outlets around town to raise money for the Hanging Baskets, and flowers for the containers for our town. They are €2 per line; we would appreciate your support.
Our brilliant Portarlington Folk Choir will be singing at the following ceremonies for Easter: Good Friday - Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3.00pm and Stations of the Cross at 7.30pm. Easter Sunday - 12.15pm Mass

The AGM of Portarlington Christmas tree Committee took place in the Anvil Inn on Friday March 23. The following Committee were elected – Chairperson-Anthony Ryan. Secretary -Geraldine Hibbits. Treasurer – Brian Donagher. PRO- Johnny Dunne. Committee-Johnny Maher, Seamus Kavanagh, Tony Kavanagh, John Moran, Tony McCormack, Leona Kelly, Brenda Donagher & Amy O’Connor.

Nicole Turner had a fantastic weekend at the DSE National and UK Swimming Championships 2012. She won 5 gold medals in total and achieved 5 personal best times for each event. Nicole did the 50m freestyle in 48.09, 100m freestyle in 1min 50sec, 50m backstroke in 1 min, 100m backstroke in 2min 11sec and 50 breast stroke in 1min 6 sec.
A team of six went from the Republic of Ireland and they returned with 15 medals in total. Nicole was the youngest member of the team. The next event for Nicole is the DSA National Championships at the beginning of May in Birmingham.
All roads lead to Emo Court Next Friday April 6 for the 2nd Good Friday 8k Forest Run organised by St Michaels AC, as a fundraiser for the club. Starts at 6pm, registration from 4pm. Entry €10, €20 for family. There will be a shorter 5k route for walkers. Contact Aidan (087) 6968844.
Work continues in the town as part of the Dirty old Towns programme. The TV programme will go out this Wednesday April 4 at 8pm on RTE1. Dulux are sponsoring paint for makeover of the Main Street and this work has started.

Hoarding at St Michael’s Park/Sandy Lane has been removed, and we cannot thank enough the volunteers who came out to help. They are a credit to our Town.

A Pop up Gallery has opened over Lyle Goodwin’s shoe shop as part of Ports DOT Project. Some of the artists and students from the surrounding area of Port will be showing, in this hidden gem of a building. Congratulations to Eva Galvin, Naomi Luttrell and Kayleigh Woods who won the All Ireland Primary Schools 6th Class athletics competition in Athlone recently.
The Presentation Primary students performed well in all of their events to secure first place among the schools who attended. Eva, Naomi and Kayleigh are members of St Michael’s AC. Well done also to Olra Mullally, Colaiste Iosaghain who was first in her category in national schools fitness test carried out among participants from 80 other schools nationally.
ST MICHAELS AC
Training for Senior Club members will move to Emo Court from Tuesday April 10 at the usual time of 7pm.
All Tuesday and Thursday training sessions will be held in Emo for the Summer months.
Running for beginners group “Fit for Life” training will also move to Emo on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm for the Summer. Training €2 per session. Sunday morning run at Emo will take place at the earlier time of 9am from Sunday April 15.

GRACEFIELD SOCCER CLUB
Next Saturday April 7 at 2.30pm @ Botley Lane Portarlington. Gracefield FC under 17`s will take on Killavilla United under 17`s in the final game of the Season, in which the winner will be crowned champions. Entry is free, please come and support the boys in what should be a great game of soccer.

Church Gate Collection: The club would like to give a big thanks all those who gave so generously to our recent Church Gate Collection and to all those who helped out with the collecting.
Congratulations to the St. Conleths U-14 Team who put on a great performance to win the Laois Féile competition on Saturday last. The girls are training hard at the moment and looking forward to representing Laois in the National Féile Competition in June.
