DRUGS AWARENESS MEETINGS. Laois Local Drugs Network will hold information evenings across the county in association with Laois GAA. The evenings will provide parents/ guardians as well as those working with young people with practical information on the signs of substance abuse as well as information on youth and sports activities available for young people in each location.

The Local Drugs Network will also hand out its recently published booklet containing relevant up to date information on drugs services available in Laois. The events are open to all and free of charge. The Portlaoise meeting takes place on Wednesday, April 11 at the Portlaoise GAA Club.


Main Street will be transformed into an open air market with street entertainment and music on Saturday, April 14. The road will be closed from 9am to 5pm. Aswell as the usual stalls, local traders will have special offers and Transition mini-companies from the local schools will also be taking part.

Prayer around the Cross at 9pm led by Portlaoise Parish Youth Group. Parish Church open until midnight for time of quiet prayer at foot of Cross.

Holy Saturday: Easter Vigil - Parish Church 9pm. Traditional Eastern Europea Blessing of Food by Fr Tadeusz Durajczyk (Diocesan Polish Chaplain) on Holy Saturday at

12.30pm. All are welcome.

Easter Sunday: Masses in Parish Church, The Heath & Ratheniska as usual.


An outdoor Good Friday Stations of the Cross takes place from 3pm from Scoil Bhride, Knockmay. The stations will continue in the following order. Treo Nua Centre, The Green Oakleaf Place, Roselawn, Top of Harpers lane, Lake Glen, Top of O’Moore Place, Dunnes Stories, Cois na hAbhainn, Triogue Manor, Esker Hills, St Bridgids/Dr Murphy’s/Leisure Centre, St John’s Square, Parish Church (Final Station and Veneration of the Cross). The stations will continue in Scoil Bhride Hall for those not walking.


Takes place on Easter Sunday morning in Moore Abbey at 6am. Also at 6am on Mount Leinster. Buses will leave the Parish Church on Easter Sunday at 4am for Mount Leinster.


Holy Week services begin with worship all Portlaoise Parish Church of Ireland churches on Palm Sunday, 1 April: 9:30am Holy Communion at Holy Trinity, The Rock; 10:45am Morning Prayer at St Peter’s, Portlaoise; 12pm Holy Communion at St John the Baptist, Ballyfin; evening service at St. Peter’s at 7pm. Additional services in Holy Week include: an 8pm service on Monday, 2 April in Ballyfin; an 8pm service on Wednesday, 4 April in The Rock; 8pm Holy Communion service in St Peter’s on Maundy Thursday (5 April) includes washing of feet.

On Good Friday, April 6, St Peter’s Church opens from 11am-60pm (11am-2pm-Lenten music and Bible readings is open for meditation and prayer). From 2-3pm a family service followed by silence for meditation and prayer from 3-4pm. At 4pm, a Good Friday film will be screened. Good Friday liturgy at 8pm in Ballyfin.

Easter Sunday Holy Communion services: 9:30am at The Rock; 10:45am at St. Peter’s; and 12noon at Ballyfin.

Annual coffee morning in aid of the Irish Cancer Society takes place in The Heath Hall on Easter Sunday after 9.30am mass. All are welcome to support this good cause.

As part of the National Donor Awareness week the Laois branch of the Irish Kidney Association are holding their annual fundraising week beginning on March 31, with street collection and culminating with church gate collection on Saturday April 7 and Sunday April 8.
