ALL of Portarlington and much of the nation will be glued to their screens tonight, Wednesday April 4, when the second series of “Dirty Old Towns?” finally begins.

The popular six part series helps communities to transform their localities, inspired by the enthusiasm of celebrity garden designer Diarmuid Gavin. Port is the main star, with Summerhill and Daingean among other towns receiving attention. It is the culmination of five months of effort by volunteers in the town.

The first episode shows the problems that Port faces, with ghost estates, empty shops and neglected amenities, but week by week viewers will see the big changes that are now evident in the town, with many projects and fundraisers still ongoing.

Dirty Old Towns? airs at 8pm on RTÉ One.
