Late Sheila Browne
The death occurred on Tuesday January 27th of Julia (Sheila) Browne (nee Fitzpatrick) late of the Navan Road Dublin 7 and formerly of the Badger Island Castletown County Laois.
Sheila passed away in the loving care of the staff of St Francis Hospice Blanchard town. Having reposed at Massey brothers funeral home Cabra road her remains were taken to the Church of Our Lady help of Christians Church Navan road on Thursday evening. On Friday morning Requiem Mass was celebrated at ten o’clock and afterwards Sheila’s remains were removed to Castletown for burial in Churchtown Cemetery.
Chief mourners are her husband Tom, sons Philip, Ciaran, Tom and daughter Maura, extended family and friends.
The Annual General meeting of Camross juvenile GAA club will take place in the GAA Hall on Next Saturday evening February 7 commencing at 8.45pm. All are welcome in particular the parents of juvenile players. Meanwhile the adult club are selling County Board tickets costing €130. This draw has been the main source of income for the club over many years and your support would be gratefully appreciated.
The club are also holding a fund raising auction on Sunday February 15 if you are in a position to donate items such as fuel turf, sticks, farm produce then please contact Arien at 087-771-5772, or Pakie Cuddy, Peter Guilfoyle or Fran Hogan as early as possible.

Slieve Bloom Association
A well-attended meeting of the Slieve Bloom Association was held in the Green School, Rosenallis on Thursday January 22nd. The Imbolc Festival will take place on February 1st. We will meet at the carpark in Cadamstown at 2pm to drive up to the Bracket Stones for the usual craic to milk the symbolic goat. This was done in ancient times to ask for suitable weather for planting, growing and harvesting – sun and rain when required. All are welcome to attend. The articles on the Slieve Blooms and the Association for the 40th Anniversary of the Founding of the SBA book have been submitted and it will be on sale from Sunday April 12th at the Celebrations in the Community Centre, Kinnity. The last publication by the Slieve Bloom Association, which was for the 35th anniversary, sold out in days, keep a keen eye out if you wish to buy one as this is a limited edition.

Farm Safety Night
Laois Macra in conjunction with FBD will host a Farm Safety Night on Wednesday the 4th of February at 8.30pm in The Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise. All farm families and friends are encouraged to attend. Speakers on the night include James Maloney, Machinery Editor with The Irish Farmers Journal; Brian Rohan, EMBRACE Farm and a speaker from the HSA.
Evening mass is now being celebrated in St Moluas Church, Ballaghmore at 7.30pm until further notice.
