The annual pilgrimage to Ladywell commenced on a windy 15th August with concelebrated mass, the principal celebrant of which was Most Reverend Dr. Seamus Freeman, Bishop of Ossory who was also joined by Monsignor Michael Ryan V.G; Fr. Tom Murphy; Fr. James B. Crotty; Fr. Patrick Hennessy; Fr. Kieran O’Shea; Fr. Patrick O’Farrell and Fr. Sean Conlon. Despite the inclement weather and few communication misunderstandings there was a large attendance present. The music was supplied as usual by the Ballyroan Brass Band and the Abbeyleix Choir. Bishop Freeman commended the congregation on their attendance on such a disagreeable day and Fr. Murphy thanked the committee and all those who contributed to the celebration in any way. In keeping with the age old tradition the pilgrimage will continue until the 8th September when the novena will conclude with mass.

On Saturday September 1 and Saturday September 8 there will be no mass in Ballyouskill Church as masses on those dates will be celebrated at the shrine in Ladywell.

Congratulations to Larry and Kathleen Cummins of Castlemarket who celebrated fifty years of married bliss with family and friends with a function in the Castle Arms Hotel on Saturday last.

There is considerable concern in the area over the reappearance of burglaries in recent times when premises have been broken into and items stolen when the owners were absent for a relatively short period. There is a community text alert service in operation and those who have not become familiar with it yet should do so immediately. People are asked to advise of any unusual vehicles or out of place activity in the area so that information can be passed on as speedily as possible to the Gardai who are investigating these incidents.
