Fisherstown Trad fest

All roads lead to Fisherstown this week for the Fistherstown Irish Traditional Festival which runs from June 26-28. The weekend features some of the finest trad music acts with great sessions promised at the Fisherman’s Inn. Other activities include fishing, horse riding, yoga, fine food, arts crafts, demonstrations, story telling and market stalls.

Laois Walks Festival

Explore the forest on the ‘Cobbler ’s Walk’, passing a mass rock, lime kilns and the gate of the Cobbler’s Castle folly. Meet Oakvale Woods, Stradbally 2.30pm.

The Stradbally Flower and Garden Club outing to Waterford has been changed to Friday, July 10.

RETIREMENT

A reminder from the Parents Council of St Colman’s National School, Stradbally of the retirement function for Padraig Ashe in the school on Thursday, June 25 from 7pm onwards. All welcome to attend.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL SHOP

The St Vincent de Paul shop in Stradbally are looking for good quality ladies and gents and childrens summer clothing and footwear. Please drop them into the shop on Main Street any Tuesday – Friday from 10am till 4pm and on Saturday, 10am – 1pm.

MEDLEY DAY

Medley Day will be held in Timahoe on Sunday, July 12 commencing at 2pm. A number of events have been organised for the day. A 5k fun family run, walk, or crawl has been arranged for 12 noon. Entrance for adults is €10 with children free.

SUMMER ARTS

The Laois County Council Summer Arts Programme takes place in the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally from Tuesday, August 4-6.

Over the three days artist Wendy Wright will learn participants learn about different techniques in painting, artcraft and creative sculpture. All workshops run for over 2 hours over three days and cost €25. Places are limited so early booking is advised. SENIOR SURFING INTERNET CLASSES

Senior surving internet classes will take place over six Tuesday afternoons in Stradbally Library. Participants will learn how to use gmail, facebook, skype and tv/radio playback.

The first class took place on Tuesday, June 16 from 1.30pm-3.30pm. Classes are €20 per person with only 10 places available on each course, it is advisable to book early. Contact 0578661900.

Late Margaret DEEGAN

Condolences to the family of the late Margaret Deegan,

The Derries, Ballybrittas, Laois who died on June 18 at the Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. Deeply regretted by her loving brother John, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends. RIP. Reposing at Mahers Chapel of Rest, Portarlington.
