Fundraiser in aid of Irish Cancer Society. Mary Miller will host her tenth annual Daffodil Day coffee morning on Friday, March 22 from 10am to 8pm at the 57 Boutique, Main Street, Port. Drop in any time on Friday to have a coffee, meet up with friends, and make a small donation to the Irish Cancer Society.

Port’s Parade

A big well done to the small committee who have once again organised our parade. The committee would like to thank all the business people who gave so generously. Also many thanks to everyone who gave generously to their flag days on Friday and Saturday, March 1/2. Big thanks to everyone who helped with collecting. Also thanks to local businesses for the use of their premises.

Well done to all the groups who went to great efforts on the day. Unfortunately this could be the last parade for Port if we don’t get enough committee members at the next AGM, which will take place in the coming weeks.

Easter Extravaganza

Love Port in association with the TY students of Coláiste Iosagáin announces a day of fun for all. The event will be held on the grounds of Coláiste Iosagáin Secondary School on Saturday march 23. The day will feature a wide range of fun activities, such as stalls, games, face painting, bouncing castles, Easter egg hunt and a world record attempt to achieve the highest number of participants to simultaneously taking part in the Cup Song. Entry charge at the gate is €2 per family. We would greatly appreciate your support.

Coláiste Iosagáin

The parents council would like to thank everyone who supported their recent flag day collection. Thanks also to those who helped out with the collections.

Sympathy

Condolences to the family of Tadhg Dawson, Station Grove and formerly of Glasnevin Dublin who passed away on Wednesday March 6.

Tadhg was a former staff member of the Irish Prison Service. Tadhg will be sadly missed by his partner Mary, his sons Alan, Colm, Niall and David, his extended family and many friends. Requiem mass took place in Our Mother of Divine Grace Church, Ballygall Road East, with burial after to Fingal Cemetery. May Tadhg rest in peace.

Sympathy

It was with deep sadness that the town heard of the death of Josie Finlay (nee Hughes) Station Road who passed away on Friday March 8 in the loving care of St Joseph’s Hospital, Ennis.

Josie was predeceased by her loving husband Paddy a number of years ago. Josie will be sadly missed by her daughters Mary and Anne, her sons Paul and Paudge, her extended family and friends. Josie was a founder member of Portarlington Social Services where she dedicated many years doing trojan work and also a member of the local ICA. The Social Services committee send their deepest sympathy to Josie’s family. Requiem mass took place on Sunday March 10 at St Michael’s Church with burial after to St Michael’s Cemetery. May Josie rest in peace.

Portarlington Town FC

Portarlington Town FC would like to thank all who supported our table quiz in the Barrow Lodge. With 18 teams it turned out to be a great success. Congratulations to the winning team of Christopher, Cathal Ryan, Damien O Reilly and Murt who came out the winners at the end and are crowned PTFC quiz champions 2013. The club would like to thank all who donated prizes.

Swimming Champ

Once again big congratulations to Nicole Turner who competed in the National Halliwick Swimming Gala on Saturday March 9. Nicole came home with one gold medal and three bronze medals to add to her vast collection of medals and trophies. Tiernan Wearen, who is also from Portarlington won two silver medals. Well done Nicole and Tiernan.

The Social Services bingo will stop for the next few weeks, and will resume again when the centre is complete and we have moved back to our premises. Thanks to everyone for your cooperation, and many thanks to the Hostesses who help out every Wednesday night.

St Conleth’s Ladies FC

Tennis Club

The Portarlington Lawn Tennis Club AGM will be held on Tuesday March 26 at 8pm, in the club house. All senior members, student members and parents/guardians of junior members are invited to attend. St Michael’s AC

St Michaels AC will host a 5k fun run on Good Friday March 29 at 6.30pm at the Heritage Hotel and Spa Resort Killenard. Proceeds in aid of Autism Ireland and Irish Cancer Society. Up and over project. Entry €10 with spot prizes for some competitors. All welcome.
