Carlow Older Persons Network is holding their annual Halloween dance on Wednesday October 30 in the Seven Oaks Hotel. The event will run from 2pm to 4.30pm and the tickets are €5. The autumn collection for the support of the priests of the parish takes place at all masses next weekend. This is one of four collections from which priests receive their salary. All other Sundays the collections go towards the running of the parish.
St Clare’s Children’s Choir practice on Monday nights from 4.30pm to 5.30pm in parish centre, please note change of time. Choir is open to all primary school children and first year in secondary school. Parish Youth Choir practice each from 12.45pm to 2pm. The choir is open to all secondary school students and young adults. Musicians are also very welcome.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
The Sunday school after the 11.30am mass in St Clare’s. Invited are all children aged between Four years and First class to take part. The aim is to introduce the children to the mass by taking part in activities appropriate to their age. These activities will take place in the parish centre. The children will leave at the start of mass and will be supervised by adults and students from our second level schools. The children will return to mass at the ‘Our Father’.
Thursday Morning Club has resumed after 10am mass in St Clare’s. Parishioners are invited into the parish centre after mass for a cuppa and a chat.
ÉIST CANCER SUPPORT
The Éist Cancer Support Centre will run a six week art therapy course starting on October 16. Art therapy uses paint, clay, collage or other textile aids in a group setting to help the individual discover new possibilities in coping with loss and bereavement. CARLOW HISTORICAL AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY
The first of our Autumn /Winter lectures will take place on Wednesday 16 October at 8pm, in Borris Vocational School, entitled ”The Bridges of Carlow’s Mountain River and its Tributaries” by Francis Coady. The lecture will discuss previously unrecorded river bridges from the mid Carlow area. These bridges vary in style, composition and condition, while all maintain an important place in their local landscape. Their architectural details vary enormously from bridges within walled estates to those found on small boreens. The bridges recorded date from the 18 to the 21 century. Admission is free and all are welcome.
