Ageing with confidence course for anyone over 50 is being held in the Marion Centre every Tuesday morning from 10am to 12.30pm. Commencing on Tuesday October 22, for 8 weeks.
A barn dance in aid of Laois Down Syndrome will be held in the Ossory Showgrounds in Coolfin on Sunday October 27 from 8pm. Music by Carmel Minogue. Country and western theme fancy dress, tickets €15.
Classes for over 55s are being held in Scoil Bhride every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Commencing on Wednesday October 23 for 6 weeks.
Dancing will be taught by Maureen Culleton in the community centre every Thursday morning from 11am to 1pm. Commencing on Thursday October 24, for 6 weeks.

Presentation night from this year’s 280km charity cycle to Donegal will be held in Ian Maher’s on Saturday October 19 at 9pm. Music by DJ Noel Brennan. All welcome.

As part of the children’s book festival Liam Farrell author of The Big Good Wolf will visit Rathdowney Library on Wednesday October 16 at 12.30. This story time would suit junior and senior infants or first and second class. Local author Michael Creagh will visit on Tuesday October 22 at 2.30pm, this would suit the older generation, the active retirement group will attend but this is open to anyone interested. This month’s book is To School Through the Fields by Alice Taylor. The book club meet once a month on a Monday night at 8pm in the Library. The next meeting will be Monday 4, November.

OSSORY CYCLING CLUB
For those interested in some winter training. Turbo training classes will commence on Wednesday October 9 in the Marion centre at 8pm sharp. The only criteria is that you must have your own turbo trainer.
On Sunday the October 27 OCC are holding a 70K leisure cycle starting and finishing in Errill village.

Donaghmore Field Day
This annual fundraising event will be held at the Swallows’ Quarter, Donaghmore on Sunday October 20 from 1pm. Events and attractions will include the Laois Hunt Chase, exhibits of vintage machinery, a vintage threshing, stone crushing, an auction of various items, sheaf pitching, cakes, country produce, teas, archery, bottle and book stalls, wheel of fortune, a children’s corner and much more for people of all ages
