Mountrath’s dancers get set for Strictly

Dance fever has taken over the town of Mountrath, 30 dancers are practicing all hours of the day to perfect their moves for their big night. The night in question is October 25 when the dancers will take to the stage of the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel for Mountrath does Strictly.

The event is being held in aid of St Fintans GAA, Mountrath re-development fund, and participants have been busy rehearing for the past couple of months in order to perfect their moves.

The 30 dancers are John Carroll, Kevin Bryne, Margaret Fitzpatrick, Aisling Kirwan, Carol Boyan, Mick Grehan, Mick Browne, Eddie Phelan, Monica Middleton, Willie Byrne, Dan Russell, Diarmuid Murphy, Paul Meade, Ruairi Broughan, Maeve Cole, Yvonne Bryne, Eileen Sheeran, Mary Treacey, Mary Tierney, Wayne Sydes, Bernie Rice, Paul Cranna Doheny, Eddie Murtagh Brophy, Brian Flannery, Geraldine Fitzpatrick, Roisin Tobin, Ann Martyn, Sinead Hanlon, Kelly Browne and Donal Kearns.

They are rehearsing together every week and there has been great community involvement with the project.

Tickets are €20 each and can be bought in Centra, Costcutters, Simply Beautiful, Cosy Cafe and Tots and Co Playschool. Buses leave from Eddie Kirwans and The Pub at 6.45pm on the night and there is a late bar and disco to 2am. The show itself kicks off at 8pm and doors are from 7pm. It promises to be a very entertaining event with 15 couples doing different styles of dance with everything from a waltz to cha cha to the charleston to disco. Team Strictly are remaining tight lipped about their dance partners as all will be revealed on the night.
