Shave or dye hit in Abbeyleix

All eyes were probably out on stalks in Abbeyleix recently as the Today FM Shave or Dye fund-razor in support of the Irish Cancer Society kicked off.

All eyes were probably out on stalks in Abbeyleix recently as the Today FM Shave or Dye fund-razor in support of the Irish Cancer Society kicked off.

There were several events taking place over the course of the two-day event. On Friday evening, it all started in The Horseshoe Inn – head-shaving, beard shaving, hair-dyeing and leg/chest waxing being foremost on the agenda.

By the time the evening came to a close it resembled a Sinead O’Connor convention with head-shavers Martin McEvoy, Joe Clooney, Anthony Coffey, Donal MacRedmond, Rebecca Bowell, and Mark Kirwan putting their hair on the block. John Bowell and Jimmy Palmer looked years younger after they had their beards removed – John’s chin and top lip hadn’t seen the light of day in over 25 years and Jimmy took that one step further and had his head shaved too.

The hair dyeing was “headed” up by Helen Bowell who became a becoming shade of electric pink having had her hair coloured the previous evening in Ego Boost, Abbeyleix. Donie O’Halloran and David Lynch went blue on the evening, Adrian Quinn, Darren Kelly and Liam Gorman turned a vibrant shade of red and Hazel Donegan underwent a transformation into a vision of purple.

Jack Cahalan had to postpone his hair dyeing due to health grounds but he assures us that he will be getting his hair coloured within the next few weeks.
