The Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes is holding its first meeting in Mountrath on Friday, March 2 at 8pm in the New Community Centre in Kiln Lane.
Ray FitzPatrick, the Laois/Offaly facilitator for CAHWSTs will outline the reasons not to register and not to pay.
Speaking ahead of the meeting he said the Household Tax begins at €100 per year but claimed it could quickly increase to €100 per month.
“If this regressive tax is established it will syphon an extra €2billion per year out of our country, which will deflate the economy further, driving small and medium enterprises to bankruptcy, increasing unemployment and emigration.
“This in turn will lead to further cuts in Health, Education and Social Welfare,” he said..
