The community forum election to fill two vacancies in the Borris-in-Ossory electoral area took place in the Abbeyleix Park Development meeting room Fr Breen Park on Tuesday May 1. The canditates for election covered a good cross section of community groups through Laois. The meeting was very well attended. The two successful canditates declared after a hotly contested election were Mary White and Jenny Mc Donnell, we wish them both well, we know they will be suitable canditates to represent the Borris-in -Ossory electoral area.

The children from Jelly’s Tots Playschool became the youngest members of the local GIY group. Margaret Jacob, founder member of Abbeyleix GIY paid a visit to the playschool and explained to the children how they could grow their own vegetables using recycled produce. Margaret suggested they such be encouraged to expand, this week they secured a small allotment which will allow them to grow their own vegetables.

The local GIY group which has been very active since it was established two years has now over 90 members.

Abbeyleix Tidy Towns made available a prime site in the centre of town as a community garden. Plans are at an advanced stage to have it a working garden in time for this year’s Abbeyfest.

Abbeyleix Tidy Towns AGM will be held on Monday May 14 in Heritage House Abbeyleix at 8pm. We would very much appreciate a good turn out.
