The death has occurred at Waterford Regional Hospital following a short illness of Martin McGree of Freshford and late of Castlemarket. His passing at the age of 64 years saddened all who knew him. An employee of Glanbia, Martin was extremely popular with all his colleagues and neighbours. His burial took place in St Lachtain’s, Freshford on Sunday. Martin was predeceased by his wife Peggy and son Colin. Sympathy is extended to his sons Liam, Shane and Noel, daughter in law Mary, grandson Colin, sister Helen, relatives and friends.

The 38th AGM of the Attanagh Residents’ Association took place on Thursday evening. A very constructive meeting was had where the achievements for the past year were discussed to include a review of the 25 Progressive Card Games which proved to be a great success. The games will commence again next autumn. Plans for the future were discussed on how to enhance the village further. It was agreed to enter the Tidy Towns competition as entry provides motivation to improve the village. Even though there is always room for improvement, it was remarked that since Attanagh first entered the competition the appearance of the village and its surrounds have vastly improved. The following officers were proposed and elected for the coming year Patricia Ryan (chairperson), Tony Dooley (vice-chairman), Padraig Phelan (treasurer), Julie Dorgan (secretary/PRO).

Work around the village will soon commence in preparation for Tidy Towns. It is hoped to organise one evening for a big clean up and help is required for litter picking, weeding, flower planting, painting etc. We would ask that at least one member from each house would partake in this evening when it is organised. If we had a good attendance for one evening a lot of work could be achieved.
