The people of Portlaoise put baby Ellen Barron McGee one step closer to her second round of life saving treatment when they turned out in force to see the stars of The Voice perform in Club 23, last Friday night.
Winner of the singing competition, Pat Byrne also made it to the Portlaoise venue after his interview on the Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy.
“It was a fantastic night, it went really well. There was a great turn out, Club was full,” organiser Amanda Dunne said.
Although the organisers, Amanda and Catherine Hearns have no final tally on what was raised yet, they believe it will be in excess of €2,000.
“We don’t have the final figure yet as we’re waiting on the money from ticket sales to come in. But it will be over €2,000.”
In the end, ten acts who appeared on the Voice performed in Club last Friday night. Nollaig O’Connor, Jessica Pritzel and Kate Gilmore joined the winner, Conor Quinn, Sinead Fox, Gary Deegan, Gavin Kenny, Kiera Byrne and Nikita Rowe.
“They each performed four songs each and sang a few duets and group numbers, they were really great and the crowd seemed happy.”
Gary Deegan even took the unsold tickets for the event and went around the other pubs in Portlaoise singing and selling the remaining tickets.
“Tom Barron and Lisa McGee, Ellen’s parents were at the gig and they said they were really thrilled with the support.”
Amanda and Catherine thanked all those who bought tickets to support Ellen, O’Loughlin’s Hotel, Trax and Declan Dunne from Shackstudios who looked after the sound on the night.
A promotional video was made on the night and will shortly go on sale with all proceeds going to the Baby Ellen fund.
