The monthly Bingo party, organised by Borris in Ossory Social Services Committee, will take place on this Saturday December 13 in St Canice’s Hall from 2pm to 5pm. This will be the Christmas party Borris in Ossory so there will be some festive treats, music, carol singing as well as the usual game of bingo!
The December meeting of Borris-in-Ossory ICA guild took place on Wednesday night December 3. The meeting was presided over by Helen Kavanagh in the absence of the President Helen Browne. All members were welcomed to the meeting and a special word of welcome was extended to all the guests who came along for the Christmas party. A vote of sympathy was passed with Carol Sinnott on the death of her brother and a minute’s silence was observed. A report was given on the Federation meeting held in Knockaroo. Arrangements were made for some members to attend the Group meeting in Camross Hall on Thursday, December 11. Members were again thanked for their contribution to the Christmas Shoebox appeal. This year 4632 shoeboxes from Laois went to Albania, this was an increase of 192 boxes since last year. The guild again wishes to acknowledge the generosity of all those in the locality who donated cash or items for the Shoebox appeal.It is hoped to start a course of armchair Pilates on Wednesday, January 14 in St Canice’s Hall which will run for six weeks. Anyone interested in taking part should contact any ICA member. The competition for the best three mince pies was won by Helen Kavanagh, 2nd Noreen Whelan and 3rd Stella Kealy .
Members and the invited guests then enjoyed a lovely festive supper followed by some party games and a quiz and ending with a sing song and some carols. All were wished a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday January 7 at 8pm.
Over thirty members of Borris-in-Ossory Youth Club took part in the Ossory Youth annual Mini Tops Talent Competition at the Watergate theatre in Kilkenny recently. Five acts were entered in the categories of Dance, Group Singing, Performance, Trad Performance and Solo Performance. All acts were praised by the judges. Borris in Ossory Youth Club won the Group Singing and Performance Categories. Well done to all Youth Club members, Youth leaders and of course of the producers for their hard work.
The annual Youth Club Christmas Variety Concert will take place on Saturday, December 20 at 8pm in Killasmeestia Community Centre featuring many local acts. This is always a great night. Tickets are now on sale at €5 and are available from all youth members and leaders.
Badminton continues every Monday and Wednesday nights at 8.00 in St Joseph’s School Hall. New members always welcome - come in and give it a try!
After a great year in the garden now is the time to relax and enjoy Christmas. What better way than to make and display your own floral decorations, we can show you how. Come to St. Canice’s hall on Thursday, December 11 at 8 pm for a very enjoyable night. Just bring a bit of greenery such as holly, ivy and some evergreens, see you there!
