Laois Community & voluntary awards
The Dirty old Towns Committee took second prize in the category “Community Services & Support” in this year’s Laois Community & Voluntary Awards in the Killeshin Hotel on Wednesday November 21. The Committee received a framed Certificate, and received €200. This money will go towards the group’s current project, landscaping roundabouts in the town.
Other groups nominated and receiving certificates were The 4th Laois Portarlington Scout Group, Ports Tidy Town’s Committee, the Port Project and the Port 2020 Vision Project. Four local people were nominated for the Unsung hero award. They were Terence Lawlor, Donie Molloy, Edel Shaw (LOFFA) and Michael Cobbe, Killenard. These people give their time tirelessly to their different groups.
Well done to all the nominees for all their hard work, and to everyone in Portarlington for giving the town so much recognition. Voluntary work is a rewarding job, and people are urged to try and give a few hours of their time to the numerous groups in Port.
