1916 Commemoration

A public workshops will be held to develop ideas for the commemoration of the Centenary of the 1916 Rising in Laois on Wednesday, May 13 in the Stradbally Arthouse. The workshop will run from 8-10pm and will include a presentation on the national plans, some background to the plans for Laois so far, and the rest of the time will be dedicated to facilitate workshops. All are welcome.

THE LATE JERRY MAHER

The death occurred on Wednesday, April 22 of Jerry Maher, Ballymaddock, Stradbally, peacefully in the loving care of the staff of St Paul’s Ward in St Vincent’s hospital Mountmellick. Mourned by his daughters Martina and Claire, sons Ger and Kevin, son-in-law Jonathan, daughter-in-law Amy, granddaughters Sadbh and Aoibhinn, brother Tony, family and friends. Pre-deceased by his wife Maura. His remains were reposing at his home on Thursday with removal on Thursday evening to the Church of the Assumption, The Heath and following requiem mass on Friday at interment took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT STRADBALLY

Next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 29 at 10.30am in St Mary’s Hall. There will be invited groups of the ARA from the region to attend. All members are asked to attend. May 14: Bus to Boora Bog and jamboree will leave St Mary’s Hall at 10am. Bring a packed lunch. Day out to Croke Park and Glasnevin Cemetery is on June 17, final arrangements later. Names to any member of the committee as soon as possible.

DAFFODIL DAY

Thank you to all who donated so generously and volunteered to Daffodil Day again this year. The total amount collected in the Stradbally and Ballyadams area was €3,100 for the Irish Cancer Society.

AN EXHIBITION OF WORK

The Kilbride Art Studio is proud to present, in association with Laois County Council and the Laois Bealtaine Festival 2015, the annual Kilbride Art Exhibition. This year the Exhibition comes to the Arthouse Gallery, Stradbally.

Hosted by the Laois Arthouse, the exhibition will be officially launched by the Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council Mr John Joe Fennelly, on Thursday May 7 at 6pm. The exhibition will be shown from May 7 - May 29.

STRADBALLY WOODLAND RAILWAY

The Irish Steam Preservation Society’s steam trains will be running on Sunday May 3 and Monday, May 4 from 12.30pm until 4pm, at Stradbally Hall.

IRISH FORESTRY WOODLAND & BIO ENERGY SHOW

The Irish Forestry Woodland & Bio Energy Show will be held in The Lawn, Stradbally on Saturday May 9 and Sunday May 10 from 9.30am to 5.30pm each day.

VICARSTOWN RECREATION GROUP

The Vicarstown Recreation Group will have their outing on June 22 and returning on June 25 to Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny, dinner, bed and breakfast for 3 nights and 4 days. Phone 085 7482558. Walking from the Vicarstown Bridge at 7.30pm.

STRADBALLY VINTAGE RALLY

A reminder that the Stradbally Vintage Club Rally will be held this year on Sunday, June 21 at the Lawn. Admission €5, children free.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2015

Stradbally, May 16 11am and in Timahoe on May 23 also at 11am.

STRADBALLY TOWN AFC

The club will be entering a team in the CCFL Over 35s league starting on June 6. For anyone interested, training details will be announced very soon. We’re hoping to put together a panel of 16/18 players in the coming weeks. Games will be played every Saturday evening at 6.30pm.

VICARSTOWN FINE GAEL

Vicarstown Fine Gael agm was held on Monday, April 13 in the Old Community Centre. In attendance in the night were Minister Charlie Flanagan and Cllr Tom Mulhall. Local and national issues were discussed. Sympathy was offered to families who had berevements throughout the year. Officers elected on the night were: chairman John Nolan, vice chairman Tom Gorman, secretary Anne Moloney, treasurers Tom Bond and Jim Colman, PRO Valerie Turley.

THE LATE BRIDGET CHRISTINA HARRINGTON (NEE HARRINGTON)

The death has occured on April 20 of Mrs Bridget Christina Harrington (nee Harrington), Grangemore, Boyle, Roscommon, mother of former Stradbally goal keeper Donal Boyle, Roscommon. Her remains were interred on Wednesday in Killaraght Old Cemetery, Boyle.

T&S UNITED SCHOOLBOYS

T&S Utd Schoolboys Soccer Club will be running a kick start one course on Saturday, May 15 in Timahoe. It is compulsory that all people involved with teams have this certificate. The cost is €45 and we need a minimum of 15 people to run the course. Contact Alan Hartnett, T&S Utd secretary.
