Laois 2 Calais
We are a group set up in Laois to collect essential supplies for refugees in the camps of Calais and other European locations. We need men’s clothing, footwear, hats and scarves. We also need tents, blankets, duvets, pots, pans, candles, toiletries and first aid supplies. Late Sadie BENNETT
Condolences to the family of the late Sadie Bennett (née Galbraith) Tunduff, Abbeyleix who died at Oakdale Nursing Home, Portarlington on Sept 4. Loving wife of the late Leo, predeceased by her brothers John, George and sister Eileen. Sadly missed by her loving family, Trevor, Enid, Cecil, Leslie, Ernie and Alan, extended family, relatives & friends. Reposed at her residence Tunduff with removal to St Michael & all Angels Church, Abbeyleix for Funeral Service. Burial in Annatrim Churchyard, Coolrain. Donations to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

Arthritis Table Quiz
Arthritis Ireland is a relatively new qroup in the county set up to support those with all forms of Arthritis & Fibromyalgia, their families & carers. All our members have Arthritis themselves and understand how debilitating it can be. Walking/Strolling group each Wednesday at Portlaoise Leisure Ctr at 7-8pm.
We are hosting a Table Quiz in “De Bruin’s Pub”, Main St., Portlaoise at 8pm on Thursday 17th of September.” Eur 40.00 for a table of 4. Lots of prizes to be won on the night. Finger food will be served and a Trad. Session will take place immediately afterwards at 10pm also.

Tidy Towns Congrats
Congratulations to Abbeyleix Tidy Towns - they are invited to the National Tidy Towns Awards on 28 Sept in the Helix Theatre, Dublin. An invitation to the event usually indicates that the invitee will be among the prize winners when the national awards are announced. There is great excitement as to how Abbeyleix will perform.
Congratulations to all the Junior Cert students in the local community who received their much awaited results last week. Hopefully all the hard work was rewarded and the students can now look forward to their final years with added confidence.
Coffee for Hospice
Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place on Thursday 17th September, 2015. Now in its 22tnd year Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning is one of the main fundraising events to support local hospices throughout Ireland and is sponsored by stalwart supporter Bewley’s. All monies raised locally goes directly to Laois Hospice. Heritage House, Abbeyleix will hold a traditional Irish crafts evening on Culture Night Friday, September 18 with demonstrations in craft making and exhibitions of wonderful work on display beginning at 7pm.
In Knock Hall, Spink from 8pm there is an evening of traditional Irish music, song dance and storytelling in a rustic setting. Contact: 086 2660768 for more information.
Storytelling with Leslie for 3-6 year olds continues each Saturday morning at 11.30am.
The Junior Chess Club continues every Sat morning at 10am and the adult chess club will recommence in the autumn.
The adult book club are also taking a break and will resume in September.
The knitting club meets on Wednesdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Members and non-members are welcome.
Abbeyleix Library offers many services including: adult, young adult and children lending, audio books, language learning resources and reference books, large print fiction, internet and wifi and photocopying. It also has a study section & leisure reading area.

DYLAN TOWEY FUNDRAISING DANCE
The Abbeyleix Manor Hotel will hold a charity dance on Friday October 16 from 9pm to 12.30am as a fundraiser for Dylan Towey. There are six artists playing which are Tony, Theresa and the All Stars, Dave Lawlor, Camillus Egerton, Aine Crehan, Mary Prendergast and John McIntyre. MC for the night is Kevin Lalor-Fitzpatrick of Midland 103 and admission is €10. The ticket launch will be announced shortly.
