EARLIER this year, Mountmellick Community School’s Communergy team and the Green Schools Committee along with their two mentors, Ms O’Connor and Mr Heavey visited the Dáil.
The aim of the trip was to gain an insight into to how the Dáil works and to spread the word of the work that is done by both Communergy and the Green Schools Committee in order to save both energy and water within their community.
When they arrived to the Dáil TD Brian Stanley, who had arranged the day, was there to greet them.
They then went into the Public Gallery of the Dáil chamber.
They were lucky enough to get the chance to be in the chamber as leaders questions were taking place, As well as that they also saw the electronic voting in action as there was a vote being held on that day.
They then moved out of the chamber and the group was taken on a tour of the Dáil. The students said that the tour guide was very informative and added that they enjoyed his prospective of the Dáil.
On finishing their tour, the group was treated to refreshments by Brian Stanley. They then made a visit to the National Museum.
The students also found this part of their tour very interesting and beneficial as the museum contained many interesting artefacts.
Everybody had a great day which students and teachers said would not have been possible without the help of Brian Stanley.
