ELECTRIC PICNIC 2015

Residents within one mile radius of the Market House are invited to sign for Residents Tickets for this year’s event. Possible draw for tickets if there is a high demand. Signing dates are: Friday, July 10 from 7.30pm-9pm, Saturday, July 11 10.30am-12 noon in St. Mary’s Hall. Strictly: You must be living at address applied for and one applicant per household will only be accepted. Any resident unable to sign on those dates must notify a member of the committee in writing in advance of signing-in dates (July 10 & 11). Strictly there will be no names accepted after Saturday, July 11. A list of commttee members are available in local shops.

fisherstown Cycle

The 100km Fisherstown cycle challenge takes place on Sunday July 12th starting and finishing at the Fishermans thatched inn Fisherstown Ballybrittas. 100km starts at 10.30am sign on from 9am. Also 50km challenge starting at 11.30 am and family 10km starting at 11.45am. Helmets must be worn by all . Fully insured. Refreshments for all on return to Fishermans.

WEDDING BELLS

Wedding bells rang out in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally on Saturday, June 27, 2015 on the occasion of the marriage between Miss Ann-Marie Buggy, daughter of William and Bridget Buggy, No 5 Kylebeg, Stradbally and Jonathan O’Toole, son of Joseph and Teresa O’Toole, Kileen, Stradbally. The bride was attended to by her bridesmaids Catherine McAleer and Muriel Walsh, while the flowergirl was Annabelle Buggy. The bestman was Alan Wright, while Stephen O’Toole was the groomsman and the pageboys were Luke Buggy and Nigel Shiels. Fr Sean Kelly, officiated at the marriage ceremony and the soloists in the church were Eimear Mulhall and Aliyah Knox-Khan. The reception at which 198 guests attended was held in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise and the happy couple are spending their honeymoon in the Galapagos Islands.

LONGEST DAY MIDNIGHT WALK

The midnight walk in Oakvale Woods on Sunday, June 21 – seventy people walked, and almost €500 collected on the night for Concern Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund. Thanks from the organiser Billy O’Neill to all who participated, subscribed and helped.

MARKET HOUSE

The Market House Restoration Committee would like to thank all who participated in the recent re-opening of the restored Market House and made the day such a success. The musicians, dancers, clergy, Brendan Lynch catering, John Maher amplification, civil defence, Gd Brian Kelly, the people of Stradbally and the many who helped to make it an occasion to remember.

Laois Hospice Foundation would like to thank everyone who contributed to their recent Sunflower Day. Thank you also to all the collectors. All monies collected in Laois stay in Laois. You continued support is greatly appreciated. Amount raised was €1130.

Stradbally Neighbourhood Watch are holding a church gate collection on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12 in Stradbally only. Your continued support would be much appreciated.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

The St Vincent de Paul, Stradbally are holding their church gate summer collection on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19. at all masses and your continued support would be greatly appreciated.

The St Vincent de Paul shop in Stradbally are looking for good quality ladies and gents and childrens summer clothing and footwear. Please drop them into the shop on Main Street any Tuesday – Friday from 10am till 4pm and on Saturday, 10am – 1pm.

MEDLEY DAY

Medley Day will be held in Timahoe on Sunday, July 12 commencing at 2pm. A number of events have been organised for the day, kids fancy dress, dog show, a 5k fun family run, walk, or crawl has been arranged for 12 noon. Entrance for adults is €10 with children free.

SUMMER ARTS

The Laois County Council Summer Arts Programme takes place in the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally from Tuesday, August 4-6th. Artist Wendy Wright will teach different techniques in painting, artcraft & sculpture. Workshops 2 hours cost €25. Places limited so booking is advised.
