A medal from our 1952 senior football championship winning Park side has recently surfaced and we would like to return this precious heirloom to its rightful owner. The medal was discovered nearly a year ago on Main Street Stradbally outside John Donohue’s Butchers Shop and should you wish to find out more, we would ask that you contact our club chairman, Jimmy Morrin at 0872035537.

LATE JAMES FALLON

The death occurred on June 25 of James Fallon, (Stradhill House, Vicarstown Road, Stradbally, and formerly Riverside House, Excise Street, Athlone) at his daughter’s residence in Dublin. Beloved husband of the late Angela; deeply regretted by his loving children John, Regina, Yvonne, Caroline, Joseph and Elaine, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, sister Eithne, brother Declan, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. His remains were removed to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally, on Thursday morning at 10.50am for 11am funeral mass and burial took place immediately afterwards in Oakvale Cemetery.

HOUND SHOW

The Stradbally Home Fair and Family Hound Show will be held in the grounds of Stradbally Hall on Sunday, July 7. This is and equine and country pursuit showcase and this year for the first time endurance riding will be a feature of the event. Also there will be the Stradbally Country Markets, trade stands, live music and the usual fairground attractions, together with the novelty dog and agility show will provide spills and thrills for all the family. The best dressed lady and gent competition will add to the excitement. A great day’s outing not to be missed.

WHIST DRIVE

The following are the results of the whist drive held in St Patrick’s Hall on June 21. Top score Molly O’Brien, 1st lady Teresa Grufferty, 2nd lady Rosaleen Cole, 1s gent (tie) Gerry Kealey and Tom Finn, 1st half Christina Browne, 2nd half (tie) Charlotte Glynn and Willie Wallace, lowest score Kathleen Hennessy, hatching Margaret Brennan, raffles Mai Hendy, Lena McEvoy, Christina Browne and Teresa Grufferty. Next whist drive will in St Patrick’s Hall will be held on July 19. Thank you to our helpers and supporters.

HOUSEBOUND

The housebound of the parish will be hattended to on Friday, July 5.

ANGLERS

A meeting of the Stradbally and District Anglers Association will be held on Monday, July 8 commencing at 8pm at the Lake. Fly fishing competition on July 13 and worm competition on July 14 from 1pm until 5.30pm, members only. Entrance fee €10. Contact 085 1414097, 085 1649592, 087 8985212.

TABLE QUIZ

A table quiz in aod of Motor Neuron Disease (in memory of Betty Rue) will be held in Ramsbottoms Lounge, Stradbally on Friday, July 5 commencing at 9pm sharp. Register at 8.30pm. Table of four €40. Contact Lisa O’Sullivan/Bowel 087 8985212, Tom Bowe 086 8339551.

LATE DELIA DUNNE

The death occurred peacefully at Portlaoise Regional Hospital on June 17 of Delia Dunne (nee Cushen), (Grange Lower, Stradbally). Beloved wife of the late Patrick Dunne; sadly missed by her loving family, son William, daughters Margaret, Mary, Ann and Judith, daughter-in-law Pauline, sons-in-law Pat, John and Alfie, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends. Her remains were reposing at her daughter Margaret Booth’s residence at Rathfield House, Kilone, Stradbally until removal to the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally on Tuesday evening and following requiem mass on Wednesday at 2pm interment took place afterwards in Oakvale Cemetery.
