Mountmellick Utd FC’s annual 7-a-side tournament is on from Friday July 5 to Sunday July 7 at Conor Davis Park. This year it is being held in association with the Paddy Feery Fund. BOG ROAD WALK
The Willie Brock Sinn Féin Cumann Mountmellick is holding the first annual Old Bog Road walk (4.5 miles) and talk on Sunday July 7 at 11am. Dick Fitzpatrick will give a talk on the history of the bog. Participants should wear appropriate clothing. Dogs allowed but must be kept on a leash. Assemble outside Lifestyle Mobility (Bay Road Business Park) at 10.45am. JOHN FEEHAN TALK
Dr John Feehan will give a talk on the ‘Heritage of the Slieve Bloom, its natural & human heritage’ on Monday July 29 in the Arts Centre. Tickets are €5 and all funds raised will go towards recording the presentation and Heritage week 2013. Simone Schümmelfeder, a German storyteller will visit Mountmellick Library on Tuesday July 16 at 11.15am. Simone intends to tell a number of European stories and give a bit of information about the countries the stories are from as well. Suitable for ages 5-12. LATE LIAM HIBBITS
There was much regret at the death of Liam Hibbits of New Road on Thursday June 20 at St Vincent’s Hospital. Liam will be most fondly remembered by all who knew him. Remains reposed at his residence on Friday until removal that evening to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem mass was celebrated on Saturday at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere condolences of the community are extended to Liam’s wife Carmel, family, relatives, neighbours and friends on their sad loss.

The Guild hosted a group meeting on Wednesday June 19 in ICA house, with members from Clonaslee, Rosenallis, Portarlington and Emo. Secretary Maureen Cusack read the minutes of the last group gathering in Clonaslee. Federation president Betty Gorman stressed the importance of groups meeting at least once a year. All enjoyed games, music and a beautiful tea served by our guild, along with lots of raffle prizes. The next group meeting will be in Portarlington in 2014.

Songs of Praise
Sunday, July 7, 3.30pm at St John’s Church, Coolbanagher, near Emo. Come along and join with a band, soloists and choirs to sing some favourite hymns. There will be a collection for Church funds and a cup of tea afterwards. Everyone welcome.
Well done to all the Branch members who came to the library for the Live Music celebration recently. It was lovely weather and the music was played outside, reportedly heard in the gardens of the houses on the street. Practice continues for the Leinster Fleadh Grupaí Cheoil on Tuesdays and Sundays unless otherwise notified.
Well done to all who participated in the recent Community Games County Finals in St Abbans. Mountmellick came home with plenty of medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
