Two free events on in Portarlington. Historical talk and poetry reading, at The Huguenot French Church, 7pm - 8pm. Local historian David Orford will give a talk on interesting and little know facts about the ancient French town of Portarlington. Writer Jean O’Brien will give a short poetry reading, including her international award winning poem, Merman.
Drama Society open evening, at The Anvil Inn, Main Street, at 8pm. Drama enthusiasts are invited to join the Portarlington Drama Society to meet the group and discuss plans for their next production.

New season of the bridge club begins on Monday September 16, at 8pm in Garryhinch Golf Club Portarlington. New members welcome.

On Saturday September 14 there will be a Mussel Festival in Portarlington in aid of Portarlington First Responders. The event takes place in Crowe lane at the rear of Alan Mitchel’s.
There will be a serving of mussels and complimentary drink. Great ambiance as you enjoy your bowl of mussels, with family and friends around a table in the marquee. Portarlington First responders are also looking for your presence on the day, to support them in their fundraising for this vital service.
Portarlington Happy Heart’s Club will now meet on Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm in the community centre instead of Friday.
Social Services Bingo

Condolences to the family of Sr Aine O’Neill Presentation Sisters Portlaoise, and formerly of Bracknagh who passed away on Monday September 2. Sr Aine will be sadly missed by her brother Nicky, sisters Eilish, Colette Frances, Mary, Patricia and Claire, her extended family, friends and her loving community of the Presentation Sisters Portlaoise. Requiem mass took place in St Peter and Paul’s Church Portlaoise on Wednesday September 4, with burial after in St Peter and Paul’s Cemetery. May Sr Aine rest in peace.
