SOCCER LOTTO WIN
Congratulations to Michael Melia, Twomey Park, who has won €5760 in the four number jackpot in the Soccer Lotto. The draw took place in Moloney’s Gaelic Bar on Monday August 26. The numbers drawn were 3, 9, 14, 16 and bonus number drawn was 4. The bonus jackpot was not won and this still stands at €5000, whilst the four number jackpot reverts to €500. Set dancing resumes on Monday September 16 at 8.30pm in Ballyfin community centre and continues each Monday night except bank holidays. Classes will be given. Contact Maureen on 087 6482038 for details.
The group held a very successful registration night on Thursday September 5 for beavers, cubs and scouts and will resume meetings after the summer break on Thursday September 12. Any boys and girls who did not get a chance to register can still apply to have their name added to the list of the relevant section. For age 6 years they must contact Beaver Leader Yvonne Keady at the Methodist Hall from 7 pm to 8 pm. For age 9 years please contact the new Cub Leader Edith Deffew (who takes over from Mary Lalor-Fitzpatrick) at the Owenass Hall from 7pm to 8.30 pm. For age 12 years contact Scout Leader Winnie O’Reilly in the YM Hall from 7pm to 8.30 pm. All groups meet on Thursday nights. The group are holding their next disco in the Owenass Hall on Friday September 20 from 8pm to 10 pm which is strictly for 9 to 12 year olds. Admission is €5 which includes a drink and bag of crisps.
Panto time is approaching soon, registration for children interested in taking part in the Macra Panto will be held shortly, €10 once off fee required. Comhaltas will perform traditional Irish music from 5pm to 6pm on Friday September 20 in the library to celebrate culture night. Visitors can tour the current exhibition while enjoying light refreshments. All are welcome.
Mountmellick Drama Group are holding an Open Evening from 8pm to 9.30pm in The Arts Centre, to mark National Culture Night on Friday September 20. All drama fans are invited on a tour backstage, new members welcome to join as performers or backstage.

The library summer reading challenge is drawing to a close. This is your last chance to drop in your completed Creepy House cards. An award ceremony will be held in October.
Paul Weerasekera, a Limerick based artist, is exhibiting his work in the library gallery until September 28. Titled ‘Paintings of Laois & Offaly’, it features acrylic on canvas scenes from both counties including Rosenallis, Shannon Harbour, Tullamore and Stradbally. Born in Sri Lanka, Paul trained as an architect in the UK and also studied art and design. He has lived in Ireland for 25 years and had numerous solo exhibitions. All are welcome along.

Music in the House continues at the Heritage Centre in Abbeyleix on Sundays. This is open to all musicians (not just Comhaltas members).The sessions are led by professional musicians such as Áine McGeeney (lead tutor), Colm Phelan, Yvonne Bolton and others. The objective is to develop a repertoire of Laois tunes and songs suitable for a concert performance, aimed at raising the profile of heritage house as a focus for traditional music in county Laois. CAPE CLEAR irish trip
A weekend of music, walking, sightseeing and other activities which are all optional is being organised on Inis Cléire (Cape Clear) from September 27 to 29.
