Mountmellick Camera Club’s 2014 calendar is on sale for €5 from O’Horain’s, O’Gorman’s and MJ Dunne’s shop or from club members. The calendar features scenes from around Laois and would be an ideal Christmas present.

The Rock GAA is holding a monster auction on Sunday November 24 at 1pm in the clubhouse.

The club needs items to auction such as household and farming items, furniture (good condition), working electrical goods, fuel, fuel vouchers, bric-a-brac, gift vouchers etc. All items must be sold on the day so there’ll be bargains aplenty.

EU/Ireland at 40 exhibition - displaying the history of Ireland’s 40 years of EU membership will be on view in the library gallery for the month of November. Internet and a free WI-FI service for members are available at the library. The knitting circle meets every Tuesday from 10.30am to noon. Bring along your knitting and enjoy a cuppa and chat.


The annual Mission Alive table quiz is on Thursday December 5 at 9.30pm in the Druid Bar with Michael Linehan (note change of venue and day). All proceeds to the Orphan Project in Lusaka in Zambia. Raffle prizes donations welcomed.

The 25/21 celebration of Mountmellick Comhaltas in the Gandon Inn on Saturday December 7 at 7pm.

There was much grief at the sudden death of Ann Delaney (nee Tobin) of Garoon and formerly Summerhill Portlaoise on Friday November 8 at the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore.

Ann, a popular and well known member of the community will be sadly missed. Ann was a dedicated member of Our Lady’s Sewing Guild.

Remains reposed at her residence until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Sunday evening.

Requiem mass was celebrated at noon on Monday with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery.

The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Ann’s husband Sean, daughters Eileen, Margaret and Annette, sons John and Robert, family, relatives and friends on their bereavement.
