Diageo Ireland has awarded The Barrowhouse Community Association €1,000 in funding to help support activities.

The Barrowhouse Community Association is involved with the upkeep of the Barrowhouse area. The group also organises events through the year for senior citizens, community clean ups and help at the local school. The awards have been made through the Diageo Ireland “Gifted” programme which is now in its fourth year.

‘Gifted’ allows Diageo employees who volunteer their free time to help out community organisations or charities to nominate these groups for support from the company.

Marie Girdler, Technical Support Administrator at St. James’ Gate, and Barrowhouse Community Association member commented on the award:

“The award of €1,000 from the Diageo Gifted fund will make a huge difference to The Barrowhouse Community Association. Our group is involved in the upkeep of the Barrowhouse area, organising events for senior citizens and helping at the local school.

“We are extremely grateful to Diageo for making this possible,” she said.

David Smith, Country Director, Diageo Ireland, commented:

“The programme was devised to enable our employees to support groups which are close to them and which perform vital functions in their communities”.
