WEEE Ireland, the Irish compliance scheme for electrical and battery recycling, is holding a free recycling day in Portlaoise on Saturday, February 1.
The collection events, in association with Laois County Council, will take place in Laois County Council Motor Tax Car Park, 10am – 4pm.
All batteries recycled on the day will go towards the ‘Spread a Little Sunshine’ campaign in aid of LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice. This year WEEE Ireland is hoping to at least match the €45,000 fund previously raised for LauraLynn by increasing battery recycling in Ireland by 20 percent on last year.
Anyone who can’t make the collection event can bring waste batteries back to any retail outlet that sells similar batteries in Laois.
Alternatively, people can recycle batteries for free at their local civic amenity site in Laois along with any electrical items.
