Laois Marlins swimming club will hold its AGM on Tuesday, June 24 at 7.30pm in Portlaoise Leisure Centre. Nomination forms to be returned to any committee member no later than one week prior to AGM.
Heath vintage run
Vintage Tractor Run in aid of the Heath National School. Peter Dunne is driving his vintage tractor from the Heath GAA Grounds to Killorglin, Co. Kerry to raise funds for the Heath NS. Peter is leaving from the GAA Grounds on Friday, June 20 at 12.30pm. Parents, staff, pupils & everyone associated with the Heath NS would like to wish Peter a safe trip & good luck.
Cake sale in aid of Family Forum adult services Rehab, Main Street Portlaoise takes place in the Parish Centre on Sunday, June 22 12.30am-2pm.
Ahead of the Voices across Culture Street Market Festival Downtown Portlaoise hung about 80 hanging baskets on the Main Street. They contacted retailers and asked for a €50 contribution and Jack Nolan would install and maintain two baskets outside any retailer that takes part. Downtown wants all traders taking part. Downtown want the Main Street in bloom for the summer.

Lions Club Book Sale
Portlaoise Lions Club book sale will take place on Friday & Saturday, June 20-21 in Tesco Shopping Centre from 9.30am to 5.30pm each day. Proceeds in aid of local charities. Book donations gratefully received each day.
Knitting group meet on Wednesdays from 11am-1pm in Portlaoise Library. There is no charge and all levels are welcome to come along to knit and chat.
Ciorcal Comhrá meet each Wednesday from 5.15pm-6.30pm. FreeTrade Ireland provide a free public service to allow you to pass-on or pick-up items through their website to help your pocket and the environment. They will provide a demonstration of the service in Portlaoise Library 18th June, 12pm-1pm
World War I
Well known Mountmellick man, Ger Lynch, will present a talk on Mountmellick and the Great War in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, on Thursday, 19 June at 8.30pm. Ger is a popular community activist in his home town and was last year selected as Laois Person of the Year. His insight into Mountmellick’s deep involvement in WW1 should be very interesting and all are welcome.
Portlaoise Men’s Sheds at the Portlaoise Equestrian Centre Tuesday 11am-4pm and 7.30pm-10pm. Also Thursday 11am-4pm. The annual general meeting on Wednesday, June 25 at 7.30pm.

The Arts Office, Laois County Council announce a fun packed arts programme for children and young people running in the county this year. In Portlaoise in St Francis School from July 22-24 July artist Conor Brennan will run fun art workshop for children aged 7 to 12. During the same week in St Francis budding young writers aged 12 to 15 will get the opportunity to explore creative writing with writer Jean O’Brien. All workshops cost €20.
