Ballagh Cycle Challenge
South Laois Tourism in conjunction with Ossory Cycle Club stage the Ballagh Cycle Challenge on Sunday June 22 taking in the senic countryside of South Laois and North Kilkenny. Registration for this Cycling Ireland event begins at 9am at Dec’s Bar Durrow with the 100k off at 10am and the 40k off at 11am. Registration fee includes buffet meal afterwards in Dec’s Bar. Residents on the Cullahill Mountain Road between Gathabawn and Cullahill Castle and from Ballykealy Cross to Derry Road junction Durrow are asked for their co operation on the day as cyclists will be traveling at speed on the downhill sections.
The parish lotto jackpot is now heading for €15,950 and it would be lovely jackpot to win. On June 2 the jackpot was €15,650 and it was not won, small winners were €30 Nicola Doorley €25 Nicola Doorley, and €20 Willie Dooley. The lotto of June 23 will be held in Marc Lennon’s Bar with a possible jackpot of €15,950. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.
The Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus starts on Monday June 16, mass and novena at 8pm each evening until Friday night June 20 and it will resume on Monday June 23 until Thursday night June 26.

Durrow Fado Writers Group presents Midsummer Moments 9 (a cultural celebration in words and music) at Bowe’s Café and Food hall, Durrow on Saturday June 21 at 8pm. Doors open at 7.15 pm. Family Tree Healing Mass
A family tree healing mass, celebrated by Fr George, will be held in St Peter & Pauls Church on Friday June 20 at 7pm. Cullohill ICA held their monthly meeting in the community centre on Tuesday night. Votes of sympathy were passed with Billy Gorman and family on death of Kathleen, national secretary of ICA and to Geraldine Delaney on the death of her aunt Mary Gorman in Johnstown. Arrangements were made for six members to go on the federation outing to Wexford. Two members will attend at sponsored walk for Cushla in Portlaoise on Sunday June 15 and they have sponsorship of €100 from the guild and customers of Pascal’s shop. Many thanks for your support. The raffle was won by Ann and Frances The pilgrimage to Knock is on Tuesday July 1. A trip to Croke Park, Museum and Glasnevin has been arranged by Johnstown Active Retirement Group and anyone wishing to travel should contact Breda Dunne 0568831109.
