Condolences to the family of the late Patrick Kirk of Boley, Abbeyleix who died on August 12. Reposed at his son Pat’s residence, Boley. Removal on Thursday at 10.30am to St Brigid’s Church, Shanahoe for 11am Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in Shanahoe Cemetery.
Lovely Laois is a new book of traditional Laois music published by well known musician Aine McGeeney of the band Goitse. Aine is also a tutor of the Music in d’House project run by Abbeyleix Heritage Company with local Comhaltas stalwarts Paul Lynch and PJ Phelan. On Tuesday August 26 at 3pm Michael Moylan will hold an Irish History Live Show on World War I in Abbeyleix Library. The target audience is 8-13 year olds. Admission is free. Booking is essential. On Thursday August 28 a two hour genealogy seminar will be held in the library between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. It will be conducted by Sinead Holland, archivist and Laois Library staff member. Admission is free. Again booking is not essential but we would appreciate if people could let us know if they were coming so we can have an idea of numbers. Tel 057 8730020. Our chess club for adults and children will continue to run throughout the summer. Other clubs such as our book and knitting will resume in September. ‘Lovely Laois’ trad music

Her first book ‘Lovely Laois’ combines well known and rare pieces by Laois musicians or about Laois places and faces. Copies of ‘Lovely Laois’ will be available from Heritage House €10. Proceeds cover music tuition, book printing, venue costs.
