The Rock GAA is holding a monster auction on Sunday November 23 at 1pm in the clubhouse. The club needs items to auction such as household and farming items, furniture (good condition), working electrical goods, fuel, fuel vouchers, bric-a-brac, gift vouchers etc. All items must be sold on the day so there’ll be bargains aplenty. SALE OF WORK
St Paul’s Church of Ireland sale of work will be held on Saturday November 8 from 10am to 1pm in the Old School Hall beside the Church of Ireland. There will be all the usual stalls with home baking, toys, books, bric-a-brac and a Christmas gift stall with all new items to make lovely gifts. All donations can be left into the hall on Friday afternoon November 7 from 3pm to 5pm. There will be a raffle with €100 cash first prize and 2 bags of coal and 5 bales of briquettes 2nd prize and many more prizes on the day.
St Joseph’s Cemetery annual church gate collection is on Saturday and Sunday November 8 & 9. All support appreciated.
The next group meeting is on Wednesday November 5 in the MDA at 10.30 am with a guest speaker. The annual Christmas dinner and party is being held in O’Loughlin’s Hotel on Sunday December 14 with time and other details available at the meeting on November 5.

Mountmellick Community Arts Centre hosts this year’s GAA annual Scór na nÓg competition on Friday, November 14 from 7pm. Registration from 6pm. Open to all GAA aged members 17 and under.

Congrats to the girls and boys of the Rock National School who competed in two finals at the recent Cuman na mBunscol schools gaelic football finals at O’Moore Park. Hard luck to the boys who lost out after making a great comeback in the Division 4 final but congrats to the girls who had a great win in the Division 6 final.

LOOMING AT LIBRARY
Loom banding sessions continue every Saturday at the library from 11am to 12.30pm and on Thursdays from 4pm to 5pm. Call in and check out our folder of loom banding ideas for you to make. All welcome.
The library knitting/crochet group meets each Tuesday from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Bring along your needles and wool and join us for a cuppa and a chat.

This year’s Science Week takes place from November 9 to 16. The Silence of the Tenrecs, a unique opportunity to learn about the science of wildlife research & conservation takes place at noon on Wednesday, November 12 in Mountmellick Library. The Heritage Office of Laois County Council will deliver free science workshops to primary schools in Mountmellick.
