Ballyouskill Threshing Festival
The mammoth effort put in by so many made sure that this first threshing festival was a thundering success. Upwards of 70 working and vintage tractors started the festivities and were a grand spectacle as they paraded with pride through the countryside with drivers of every age. The horse and tractor driven threshing attracted a great crowd who could enjoy the outdoor atmosphere thanks to the dry weather on the day. There was music and dancing and many other attractions which continued on until well after dark in the Wheel Inn. Community events like this are very important and people can surprise themselves as to what they are capable of especially at a time when the media are intent on running down rural Ireland. The organisers who like to thank everyone who played any part at all in making the day in aid of local charities so worth while and also to those who came along to support the event.
