SENIOR CITIZENS DINNER

The annual Christmas dinner for senior citizens will take place in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow on Sunday,January 25 at 1pm. Bus will leave Social Services Centre, Stradbally at 12pm. Anyone attending who requires transport should ring 8625161, 8625055 or 8625149. All Senior Citizens from Stradbally, Timahoe, Vicarstown and surrounding areas are welcome to dinner and family members can join them afterwards at party.

THE LATE MARTINA CAFFRERY (NEE GORMAN)

The death occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2015 of Martina Caffrey (nee Gorman) Liopa, Spiddal, Co. Galway and formerly Woodview, Stradbally, Co. Laois, at Galway Regional Hospital. Sadly missed by her loving family, husband Stephen, her parents Kathleen and P.J. Gorman, her much loved sons Thomas and Dylan, brothers, sisters, in-laws, cousins and all her friends. Her remains were reposing at Killeen Barna Church from 6 to 8pm, on Monday night, with removal to Realt Na Mara Church for mass. Removal on Tuesday morning last to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally, Co. Laois for 11.30am funeral mass, following which interment took place in Oakvale Cemetery, Stradbally.

THE LATE MICHAEL MURPHY

The death occurred on Thursday, January 1, 2015 of Michael Murphy, Knockahonagh, Luggacurren unexpectedly at his residence. Beloved brother of Sr Dominica and Peggy (Costigan). Sadly missed by his nephews Tadhg, Gary and Liam, nieces Maria, Rosaleen and Áine, grand-nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends. His remains were removed on Saturday to the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Luggacurren and following funeral mass on Sunday burial took place in Clopook Cemetery.

STRADBALLY TOWN AFC

STRADBALLY COUNTRY MARKET

Stradbally Country Market will resume on Saturday, January 24, from 10am to 12.30pm, in St Patrick’s Hall, Stradbally. Come along to choose from our usual array of home baking (sweet and savoury), locally produced vegetables and fruit, local honey, pure apple juice, jams and chutneys, handmade jewellery, needlecraft, and much more. The results of our Christmas draw are as follows: first prize Mr JJ Cooney, Corbally (a Country Market hamper), 2nd Mrs Caroline Farrell, Tullamoy (Dubarry voucher), 3rd Mr Paddy Kelly, Luggacurren (iced Christmas cake). Do drop in for a cup of tea or coffee on the 24 (complementary) to herald the start of the New Year, and bring your friends.

MEN’S SHED

The Men’s Shed for The Swan and surrounding areas are up and running. Meetings resuming every Thursday night at 8.30pm at the Swan Community Hall. New members are always welcome, irrespective of age. Great plans are afoot for the spring. For further details, contact George on 086 3913180.

DRAMA CLUB

Stradbally PlayHouse Drama Club for 8 to 12 year olds, starts back on Tuesdays from January 13 in St Mary’s Hall 3.15 – 4.45pm at a cost of €45 per 10 week term. All aspects of drama covered – voice, movement, improvisation, physical theatre and performance skills. No experience needed, just a willingness to give it a go.

Stradbally PlayHouse Drama workshops for adults start back on Wednesdays from January 14 in St Mary’s Hall 7.30 – 9pm at a cost of €60 per 10 week term. Through various drama activities, participants enjoy their own playfulness and experience the joy and freedom that comes from group interaction.
