Clear sky artwork on leisure centre wall

The rain has been the only dampener on a fantastic piece of artwork currently being created at Portlaoise Leisure Centre.

As part of the recent Laois Connects week promoting positive mental health, Dublin-based street artists ADW were enlisted by Laois County Council and Mental Health Ireland to produce a piece of street art on the wall of the centre.

Manager of Portlaoise Leisure Centre Mark Roberts has revealed that the artwork was expected to have been completed over a week ago, but the bad weather has postponed things.

“It’s 3/4 done, the image is there and they’ve done all of the stencilling,” he said, explaining that the image shows a dark sky being decorated over with a clear sky and rainbow. The image reflects the theme of overcoming depression and encouraging positive mental health.

The work covers an area of 20m x 30m, and should be finished this week.
