As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge Abbeyleix library played host on Thursday, March 12 to an evening of music, song, dance and poetry from Spink branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. Opening the performance were the youngest and most recent members of Spink, who played the Kerry Polka, Eagles Whistle, and Julia Clifford’s slide. This group was joined by some of the older members. Some of the senior musicians played solos at this point, with Daragh Clooney playing a Liam O’Flynn tune on Uileann pipes, Lily Kettle performing a slow air on the fiddle, and David Vesey performing his own composition ‘The Kitchen Table’ accompanied by Cailean O’Keefe on bodhran.
