LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB

We are holding a table quiz for kids (from 3rd class, primary school to 2nd year, secondary school) in St Fintan’s Hall, Mountrath on Friday May 11 from 7.30pm - 9.30pm. It’ll be great fun, lots of spot prizes, a raffle and prizes for the winning table. Entry is €20 per table of 4. Please come along for a great night to support our fundraising efforts and bring your friends too.

GARDEN CLUB

Please note change of date for next meeting. Our next meeting will now be on Tuesday May 15 at 8pm in St Fintan’s Hall. We will have a visit from Carmel McHugh from T & C Gardens in Mountmellick. This month’s competition is an arrangement of wild flowers and/or a flowering shrub. New members and fresh ideas are more than welcome. ST FINTAN’S GAA

The numbers drawn for the April 23 were 05, 06, 07, 12. There was no jackpot winner. Next week’s jackpot for April 30 is €8,600. Tickets can be got from any promoter.

ST FINTAN’S SNOOKER CLUB

Wayne wins the snooker final. The senior snooker final of the Tommy Watkins Cupwas played off last weekend. In the seven frame final Wayne Sydes over came Adrian Mc Mahon by a score-line 4-3. Some very good snooker was played by both players and it went all the way to the seventh frame where Wayne held his nerve to win out. Congratulations to Wayne Sydes who was presented with the cup by Ms Rita Watkins, Mountrath. Also, well played to the last frame for the runner-up prize and highest break prize A McMahon. The chairman Liam Tiernan was the referee and Liam presented the winner and runner-up with their cash prizes which were kindly sponsored by the local traders in Mountrath. The snooker club is now closed for the summer months and will re-open again in September.

THE MOLLY MAGUIRES

Adults interested in cycling for a bit of fun during the long hot summer evenings, dust-down your old bike (it doesn’t have to be a High Nelly) and come along. Short cycles at your own pace around the locality with a bit of fun. All welcome. Ring or text PJ at 087 2859651 or Donal at 087 0567918.

LAOIS HERITAGE TOURS

A tour covering the heritage sites of South Laois will take place on May 9. The bus leave Abbeyleix at 9.30am and will visit Attanagh Game Museum, Abbeyleix Heritage House, Donaghmore Museum, Durrow Village and Heywood Gardens. The cost is €45 and includes lunch, afternoon tea, all entry fees and guest speakers. Clubs and groups are welcome. Group discounts available. OLD TIME DANCING

Every Sunday night in Portlaoise GAA centre from 9.30pm to 11.30pm for only €7. Music will be supplied by Midnight Dynamos this coming Sunday night, May 6.

The numbers drawn for this week’s lotto were 16, 17, 23, 26. There was no jackpot winner. There were 8 match 3s who won €125.

OUTDOOR GYM

The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages. We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.

WEEKLY CLEAN UP

Various members and volunteers of Mountrath Tidy Towns committee, which is a sub-committee of Mountrath Development Association, will be meeting every Thursday evening at the car park on Main Street at 7pm weather permitting, for a quick tidy up of the town. This usually involves picking up litter and keeping an eye on areas which might need a more thorough cleanup by our local Fás scheme participants. All are welcome to come along for the odd half hour or so from 7pm to 8pm.
