Condolences to Denise Coffey and family of Attanagh on the recent death of her mother Margo McKenzie Lambert (nee Guilfoyle) of St Fintan’s Terrace, Durrow. Her burial took place on Saturday in Durrow following requiem mass in the Holy Trinity Church. Margo is also mourned by her daughter Caroline, sons Alan and Noel, sisters Molly and Bernie, relatives and friends; to all of whom deepest sympathy is extended.
Many thanks to Philip Doheny on his voluntary work in further cleaning up the mill area which has much improved as a result of his efforts. It sets a headline that many others could well follow. The Tally-ho Bridge also has now been further cleaned also as a result of voluntary work. This very well known location had fallen into poor condition but because of work commenced last year and further maintenance it now presents a neat and tidy approach to the village from the Durrow direction.
Thomas Gaffney and members of his family came from the USA last weekend to renew acquaintances they had made ten years ago on a previous visit. They are direct descendents of members of the Gaffney family who emigrated to the USA during the 1890s. The family lived in the house presently occupied by Miriam and Lily Mooney. The last member resident locally, Bill Gaffney died in January 1943.
