HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING
The annual coffee morning in aid of Laois Hospice Foundation will be held in St Canice’s Parish Hall on Friday September 21 from 10am to 1pm. This event is always very well supported in the parish. Anyone wishing to host a coffee morning in their own home should contact Lily Sheeran, Main Street, Borris in Ossory for posters and coffee. Lily can be contacted at 0505 41308.
Knockaroo ICA will also host a coffee evening in Knockaroo Community Centre on Thursday September 20 from 7pm to 9pm. All support appreciated.
SANTA CLAUS CLUB
Hard to believe but Christmas is fast approaching and Borris-in-Ossory Santa Claus Club are holding a fundraising cabaret in Rosie O’Grady’s on Saturday September 29 with music by ‘Kieran Scott’. Tickets are €5 each and are available at Rosie O’Grady’s and from committee members. There will be a door prize of €30. All proceeds on the night will go towards Santa’s visit to Borris-in-Ossory in December. A great night’s entertainment is assured so please come along and support this worthy cause.
The AGM will take place on this Friday September 21 in St Canice’s Hall at 8pm. All members are requested to attend and new members are most welcome.
SOCIAL IN KILLASMEESTIA
A Social will take place in Killasmeestia Community Centre on this Friday night September 21 with music by Catherine and Images. Dancing will be from 9.30pm to 12.30am and supper will be served.
Borris in Ossory Brownies, Ladybirds and Girl Guides will hold a registration night in in St Canice’s Hall on Monday evening September 24 between 7pm and 8pm. The registration fee is €36 and this can be paid in instalments.
A fundraising vintage threshing will be held on Dermot Leahy’s farm, Ballyreilly, Borris in Ossory on Sunday October 7. All proceeds from the day will go to Knockaroo Church Building Fund and Laois Hospice Foundation. As part of the threshing, it is hoped to have an exhibition of interesting items from days gone by. If anyone has an old fashioned kettle, iron, piece of agricultural equipment etc and would like to share it with people, please bring it along to the exhibition. If the history of the piece could be outlined on a sheet of paper and attached to the piece, then it would make it more interesting for the viewer. The next meeting in connection with organising this event will take place in Knockaroo Community Centre on Tuesday September 25 at 8pm.
LAUNCH OF DVD
The launch of the parish DVD in aid of Knockaroo Church Fund will take place in Racket Hall, Roscrea on December 14.
Irish dancing classes will take place each Thursday in the School Hall, Borris in Ossory from 3pm to 4pm. New pupils are welcome. For further information please contact Orla Byrne at 086 2025906.
PROGRESSIVE 25 DRIVE
The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows: 1st Martin Delaney and Martin Walsh, PJ Holohan and Michael Muldowney, 2nd Willie O’Reilly and Larry Dunne, 3rd Tom Quigley and Tim Tierney, John Mooney and Paddy Sheeran 10th game Billy and Tom Maher, 20th game Joe Dooley and Tom Ryan Raffle winners were Martin Delaney, Tom Lalor, Jack Dooley and Kathleen Walsh.
Before the game began, a vote of sympathy was passed with Michael Murphy, Kilcoke, Ballybrophy on the recent death of his brother-in-law.
An envelope collection in aid of the development of a playground in the village took place recently. The committee would like to thank all who have contributed so far. At the recent church gate collection a total of €553.33 was donated.
