Heywood Community School will host David Coleman on Thursday December 6. David is a child psychologist. He will give a presentation on ‘Dealing Successfully with the Teenage years’. Tickets are €10 and are on sale from the school office 057 87 33333 and Easons in Portlaoise.
The local hall is a vital part of our community and hosts many events of community interest. From the Bible Study Group, Irish Dancing, Table Tennis, Bingo and the Mother and Toddler group it is a hive of activity. Following a refit lately there are daytime/evening slots available to anyone interested in starting a community or leisure activity. There is a conference room with an IT enable projection system available for any Training or Development courses. The hall is also available for Childrens Birthday Parties as there is a fully fitted kitchen. Please contact Hall Secretary Lynda (089-4433819) for queries.
The U14 Feile teams, The U12 girls team, this years Leinster winning U10 Community Games team along with last years U10 Community games team will be presented with their medals in the Community Hall on Saturday December 8. Parents and guardians will receive notification of times closer to the date.
ATHLETIC CLUB NEWS
Athletics training continues on Tuesday evenings from 7:30pm. Anyone interested, young or old, in keeping fit are invited to come along. New members are always welcome. The Laois Intermediate Cross Country takes place in Ballyroan on Sunday December 2 from 11am. This will be an opportunity to see many of the athletes in action.
The November meeting of Ballyroan ICA was held on Tuesday November 13 in the Sue Ryder House presided over by Kathleen Scully. Shoe boxes for the Christmas Team Hope Appeal were filled. Final preparations were made for the Annual Table Quiz and Draw which will be held on Saturday December 8 in Whelan’s Lounge, Ballyroan. Tickets for the draw are on sale now for €1.00 each and can be purchased from any member of Ballyroan ICA with proceeds going to local charities. Pilates classes continue every Tuesday night. Votes of sympathy were passed with the Phelan Family, Cashel and the Meehan Family, Portlaoise on their recent bereavements. Raffle winners on the night were Nuala Beale, Maureen Cahill, Frances Fitzgibbon, Breda Lalor, Marie Kavanagh, Mary Fitzgerald and Peggy Brennan. Supper was served by Maureen Cahill and Evelyn Mulhall. Next meeting on Tuesday December 4 with scrap supper on the night.
