LAOIS FLEADH CEOIL 2013 IN RATHENISKA AND STRADBALLY

Plans are going very well for this year’s fleadh in Ratheniska/ Stradbally. The opening of the fleadh and the dancing competitions will take place in Ratheniska on Friday, May 31 from 7pm. The group/band competitions will take place in St Coleman’s School on Saturday, June 1. Individual competitions will be on Sunday, June 2 in St Coleman’s National School. TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS

The traditional Latin mass will be celebrated in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally on Saturday, April 27 at 2pm.

SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extended to Robert Moynan, Riverside, Stradbally on the death of his brother Richard, of Woodview House, Ballacolla, Laois. Husband of Margaret and father of Karene, Janet and Marcus and granddad of Joshua, Ethan, Edwina, Holly, Rosie and Matthew. Deeply regretted by his sons-in-law Karl, and John, daughter-in-law Hilda, brother Robert, sisters Rosie and Flossie, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and a large circle of friends. His remains were interred in Killermogh Churchyard.

TRAIN RIDES

The Irish Steam Preservation Society’s Narrow Gauge Railway will have full steam up and running on the May bank holiday weekend, Saturday 4, Sunday 5 and Monday 5 May from 1pm until 4pm daily.

WHIST DRIVE

The next whist drive will be held in St Patrick’s Hall, Stradbally on this Friday, April 19 commencing at 8.30pm and all are welcome.

NATIONAL PLOUGHING

The 2013 National Ploughing will take place on the farm of David Carter, Ratheniska from September 24 to September 26. Showcasing Irish food, farming and culture, this event will incorporate all sectors of agricultural living.

SACRED STILLNESS

Sacred Stillness - (mindfulness/meditation/contemplation) starting Saturday, May 4 for a ten session course. This course is baased on a six fold path of contemplative/mystical journey. For further details contact Anne or Mai at 057 8626541.

FORESTRY FESTIVAL FOR STRADBALLY

The Irish Forestry, Woodland and Bio Energy Show 2013 will take place at Stradbally Hall Estate on Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11. The show is a bi-annual event that will feature forest and woodland machinery with all the ancillary activities that go with tree growing and harvesting. The show will host the National Tree Climbing Championships and will feature the top tree surgeons competing for a place to represent their country at European and World events.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

FUNDRAISING DANCE

A fundraising dance in aid of Tony Harris will be held in the Gandon Inn on this Friday, April 19 from 9.30pm until 12.30pm. Music by Pat and Richie. Raffle on the night. TEEN SPIRIT

Kildare & Leighlin Diocese presents ‘Teen Spirit’ celebration of teen talent and Christian faith in Askea Parish Church, Carlow on Friday, April 19 commencing at 8pm. Live band Midnite Blue. Donations welcome.

TIMAHOE LADIES UPDATE

They are launching G4G (Gaelic for Girls) Saturday, April 20. An eight week programme for new members aged 9-13 years including both provincial and All-Ireland blitz. All welcome.

TROCAIRE

Thanks to all who have returned their Trocaire boxes. If you still have Trocaire boxes please return as soon as possible. Total collected in the parish so far is €2,820, St Colmen’s School collected €1,775.34.

TREE PLANTING

Stradbally Spade Brigade planting of trees at the Stradbally Community Gardens (beside the allotments) has been postponed until Friday, April 26 and Saturday 27 commencing at 12 noon due to site clearance work that was not finished for some of the larger tree planting sites around the country.

Stradbally Country Markets open every Saturday from 10.30am - 1pm.
