The Cuisle Centre in Portlaoise is launching a physical activity programme for cancer survivors this September in conjunction with the Irish Cancer Society. Called ‘Strides for Life’ the programme runs for the 15 weeks. Anyone who would like to join contact the Cuisle Centre at 057 8681492 (only 15 places). The exhibition is curated by HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist Angela Delaney of the Laois Mental Health Services titled ‘Let’s Connect’ is part of the Laois Connects week.

The Laois Heritage Society is hosting a talk by Laois author Mr John Feehan at the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel on Thursday September 5 at 8pm when author will give a talk on his latest findings. All are welcome.
Laois 10 km
Run, jog or walk in the Laois 10k for the Carers Association supported by the Leinster Express. Everybody is invited to sign up to the event which takes place on Sunday, September 15. The race starts at the Maldron Hotel at 12 noon. All funds go to delivering support services carers in Laois & Offaly.

Naoimh Bríd Ceoltoiri Na nOg Music Classes commenced on Friday, August 30 at 8pm & Saturday, August 31 at 10am. Beginners very welcome. Pupils who sat their SCT Music Grade exam will be presented with certificates at an afternoon concert in the Dunamaise Theatre on Saturday, September 14 at 2pm. The All-Ireland Ratheniska Marching Band together with all Ireland musicians, singers & dancers will perform.

Condolences to the family of the late Jim Flanagan of Dunamaise House, Portlaoise who died peacefully, at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 29. Husband of the late Pauline and dearly loved dad to Joe, Regina, Ned, Caroline, Lorraine and Seamus the deceased is also deeply regretted by bothers Joe and Tom, sisters Minnie, Rita and Cathy, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at home with removal to SS Peter and Paul’s Church for Requiem Mass with burial in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.
