MOUNTRATH & Ballyfin



A walk has been organised to raise funds to purchase a new piece of equipment for the children’s playground. The walk will be held on Sunday November 17 at 2pm. It will start at the playground and continue to the top of the playground. We are seeking all parents participation on the day. €5 per family or any donation is welcome.


Pre Christmas Market will take place in the parochial hall Portlaoise Rd Mountrath on December 11 at 7.30pm. Details closer to the time.

Camera Club

Next meeting is Tuesday November 19 at 8pm in METAC, Mountrath. Photo theme is ‘Comfort’, photo size 8x6 inches, one photo per member, don’t forget €3 for the Kitty. Following our regular meeting we will also have our AGM, Tuesday, November 19 at 9pm, all members are encouraged to attend.

Late Denis PHELAN

Condolences to the family of the late Denis Phelan of Derrough, Mountrath, who passed away on October 29 peacefully. Reposed at Guilfoyle’s Funeral Home, Castletown, with removal to St Fintan’s Church, Mountrath for funeral mass with removal immediately afterwards to Newlands Cross Crematorium, Dublin.


Condolences to the family of the late Fintan (Fint) Moore of Rossmore, Ballyfin, Laois who died on November 5 at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. Predeceased by his sister Ann (Dunne), he is also sadly missed by his brother Johnie, sister Sheila, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at Burke’s Funeral Home, Mountrath with removal to St. Fintan’s Church, Ballyfin for Funeral Mass followed by Burial in the New Cemetery, Ballyfin.

Late Ellen Coleman

Condolences to the family of the late Ellen Coleman of Clonagown, Ballyfin who died peacefully in her home in New York on November 3. Reposed in Moloney’s Funeral Home, Mountmellick on with removal to St Fintan’s Church, Ballyfin for Requiem Mass on November 9. Funeral afterwards to St Fintan’s Cemetery.

The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages.

We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.


Dog fouling is a growing litter problem in the town, every path in the town is covered in it daily. It is a nightmare for walkers and a health hazard for young children. Local awareness to identify the dog owners responsible is required. Please contact the Council’s freephone litter hotline @ 1800 32 32 30 with specific details if witnessed i.e. name and address of dog owner, location, time and date.
