Grease the musical

Portlaoise Musical Society will be presenting ‘Grease’ in the Dunamaise Arts Centre in Portlaoise from Saturday November 16 to Saturday November 23. As well as evening shows there will also be matinees at the weekend.

Christmas lights and Market

Santa will be in town on Friday, November 22 for the the Downtown Portlaoise Christmas light switch on. The annual Downtown Portlaoise Christmas Market is on Sunday, December 1 from 10am-6pm. The heath ns

The Heath NS is accepting applications for junior infants for the school year 2014-15 during November. Application forms are available from the office. Closing date for receipt of completed forms is Friday, Nov 29. For info contact the school principal Mr David O’Brien on 057 864 6658.

Scrap for the Heath

A scrap metal drive for the Heath NS takes place on Saturday, November 16. Trailer at the school from 10 am to 3pm for people to place there items in. Do not leave any items after this time. Items accepted - farm machinery, cars, washing machines, dryers, bikes, car & truck parts, old wheel barrows, clean food tins, all metal waste etc. No plastics, fridges, gas bottles, TV’s or computer monitors. Items can be collected by prior arrangement by contacting Peter on 087 6878063.

Science week

Curious Experiments Exhibition at the Dunamaise Arts Centre daily from to Saturday Nov 16. On November 13 several Portlaoise primary schools are invited fun workshop of experimenting with ‘Scientastic’ at Portlaoise library.

Wildlife Trust

Tidy towns

The Tidy Estates Awards take place in Laois County Council on Thursday, November 21 at 8pm. All residents associations to be notified.


November events at the Parish Centre each day from 3-5pm. Festive Carols Choir practice each Wednesday from 4.45pm to 5.45pm in the Parish Centre. All proceeds to charity; Wed 13 - Something new at activities day followed by choir practice; Wed 20 - Maureen Culliton leads a great day of dancing. Choir practice follows dancing. Late Gretta Kelly

LATE Robert Moran

Condolences to the family of Robert (Bob) Moran of Clara, Offaly and late of O’Moore Place, Portlaoise who passed away peacefully at Tullamore Regional Hospital on Friday, November 1. Beloved husband of Denise and loving dad to Robert, Rose, Sharon, Rebecca, Clair and the late Michael, brothers Paddy, Neddy, sisters Rosie & Nell extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at Carthage’s Nursing Home, Mucklagh with removal to St. Brigid’s Church, Clara, for requiem mass followed by interment in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery Portlaoise.

Late Christy Finnegan

Condolences to the family of the late Christy Finnegan of 126 St Brigid’s Place, Portlaoise, Laois (Ex Bord Na Mona) who died peacefully, at the Regional Hospital, Portlaoise on Monday, October 28. Reposed at the Hospital Chapel with removal to SS Peter & Paul’s Church for requiem mass with burial afterwards at St Mary’s Cemetery, Raheen, Geashill.
