Internet safety for children

LIAM LAWTON sings

The parishes of Clonaslee, Killeigh, Mountmellick & Rosenallis (Barrow Rise Pastoral Area) welcome Fr Liam Lawton in concert on Friday November 15 at 8pm (doors open 7.30pm) in the Community Arts Centre, to close the Year of Faith, the concert will include a choir from all four parishes. Tickets €20 from parish office 057 8624390.

Community Care Meals on Wheels will hold their annual church gate collection on Saturday & Sunday November 16 & 17. Your continued support will be greatly appreciated.

MACRA

Macra is holding a table quiz on Friday November 15 in Turley’s pub. Congrats to James Wilkinson, runner up in the national beef stock judging championship. Badminton continues in the Macra Hall each Monday & Wednesday contact Trevor on 087 9143226. PHOTO EXHIBITON

The Camera Club holds its annual exhibition on Friday November 15 at 8pm in the Community School and on Sunday from 2pm till 6pm. A wide variety of photos on display both from experienced and first time exhibitors. The 2014 calendar is on sale for €5 from O’Horain, O’Gorman’s, MJ Dunne’s or from members. 

SCIENCE WEEK

Science week runs until Sunday. Today at 11am Deborah Saucier, a leading neuroscientist of the University of Ontario will give a talk in the library. ‘How your brain works’ It will be followed by a q&a session. All welcome to attend.

SCOUTS

The Halloween fancy dress disco was a great success. Thanks to Colin O’Reilly (music) & Malcolm Smith (sound). Best costume winners: u6 Billie Hayden, 6 – 9 Ellie Boland and 9-12 Grainne Bambridge. Next disco on Friday November 15 in the Owenass hall for 6 to 12 year olds from 7pm to 9 pm. Admission €5, includes a drink and crisps. Strictly supervised.

SOCIAL

The community care monthly social is on Thursday November 21, music starting at 8.30pm. The association would like more people to come along for light refreshments and entertainment. Those in the Mountmellick area who require transport may contact 087 9812525.

TABLE QUIZ

A table quiz in aid of MS Ireland will be held in The Hollow Bar on Friday November 22 at 9.30pm. Tables of 4 are €20. Questions by M Linehan. All support much appreciated.

MONSTER AUCTION

The Rock GAA is holding a monster auction on Sunday November 24 at 1pm in the clubhouse. They need auction items such as household & farming items, furniture (good condition), working electrical goods, fuel, gift vouchers etc. All must be sold on the day so there’ll be bargains aplenty. PTAA DINNER DANCEB

EU/Ireland @ 40 exhibition - displaying the history of Ireland’s forty years of EU membership will be on view in the gallery for November. Internet and free WI-FI for members are available at the library. Knitting Circle meets Tuesdays, 10.30am to noon, bring your knitting, enjoy a cuppa & chat.

MISSION ALIVE QUIZ

The annual Mission Alive table quiz is on Thursday December 5 in the Druid Bar (note change of venue & day). All proceeds to the Orphan Project in Lusaka in Zambia.

Wednesdays from 3pm to 4.30pm ‘Go for Life’ dancing sessions in Wolfe Tone Court. Wednesday November 13: group meeting in MDA at 10.30am when a speaker from ‘GROW’ will talk about enjoying life. Wednesday November 20 at 10.30am at MDA: walking group. Wednesday November 27: group meeting in MDA at 10.30am. Thursdays: music and song in St Vincent’s Hospital from 2pm to 4pm. New members are always welcome.

COMHALTAS

The 25/21 celebration of Mountmellick Comhaltas is in the Gandon Inn on Saturday December 7 at 7pm. This free event celebrates traditional music in Mountmellick for the last 25 years and membership of CCÉ. Spaces limited so tickets required. All current and past members and committee are invited.
